Update 4

It has not been an easy week. In fact at times I have despaired. PALS ladies at both Yeovil and Hillingdon have done all they could to help. If it wasn't for the PALS lady at Yeovil I still would not know he is coming home tomorrow. This morning I was really down. Then the PALS lady rang me this afternoon. Let's hope nothing goes wrong now.

Oh Prunus, what a week you’ve had, thank goodness for the PALS Ladies.

Fingers Crossed for tomorrow & hope you’re feeling as best you can with all this stress & strain.

Good Luck 🍀 for tomorrow

Thanks for that. Don't know what is going on OH has his phone off. No-one has rung me - only know what I was told yesterday. It is now 11o'clock. :( :( :(

in reply toprunus

Ring the ward if you can. At least ask them to tell him to put phone on. 🌻

prunus in reply to

At 11.35 I finally heard from him!!! But the Ward have never taken the trouble to tell me he is on his way. Hillingdon have always given me a quick call and that is a fraction of the distance.

in reply toprunus

Brilliant though. I was wondering if he was travelling so glad he got through to you eventually.

prunus in reply to

Don't know now what happened - he is saying his phone was on but I was asked to leave a message. Makes no sense.

in reply toprunus

Probably just a dip in service..plenty of dead spots around.

prunus profile image
prunus in reply to

Would just happen then.

in reply toprunus

If passing through a dead spot it would go straight to voicemail. There's a few round me in a city and rural areas are often patchy....the south west included.

At last - hope it all goes well!

So do I - at one point I was beginning to feel I was getting nowhere. Now OH has his phone off and has not contacted me this morning. Wondering whether to ring my PALS lady again.

Keeping my fingers crossed. If you can rest for a few hours now for tomorrow please do!🌻👍

Just tried to ring my PALS lady in Yeovil but she must be away from the office - anyway I've left a message. It's now about 11.15am and noone has told me anything.

Hope someone gets back to you soon. It can be a big hit and miss - and this time of year not helped by staff holidays. ❤️

prunus in reply toDorsetLady

It wasn't resolved until OH contacted me to say he was on his way. I was just in limbo. That was about 2.15pm

Remember PALS - in case you need to use them in the future.

Hope all goes well tomorrow - all the ambulance workers I have ever met have been absolutely caring, not one 'wrong un' among them.

You should have met the driver I had back from having my pacemaker done! Swooping in and out of the lorry traffic and could only drive with accelerator and brake! Told him a few home truths!! Wouldn't last long in the NHS in the UK...

jinasc profile image

Forgot about Italian drivers.............many moons ago when on holiday in Italy, I just stood and stared.................

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply tojinasc

The one going down was absolutely fantastic - told me to say if he wasn't driving well, was I OK with travelling backwards. The other numpty obvious wanted to be driving on blue lights - without the people in the back being able to work on the patient...

Never risk standing on a zebra with them!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toprunus

No-one in their right mind starts to cross on a zebra crossing until they have stopped! But they DO stop most of the time.

Me too! They never seemed to have accidents though! Left a few onlookers with a fluttering heart!😂

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toPMRpro

You get them occasionally as bus drivers as well as cab drivers and I cannot wait to get out.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply toPMRpro

What do you expect in Italy??? 😂😂

prunus profile image
prunus in reply tojinasc

I need to. I would not have contacted them but for you telling me to.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply tojinasc

I'm no longer a real English woman!! What are PALS?

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toConstance13

It stands for Patient Advisory Liaison Service. They do what their name suggests. They know all about the workings of the hospital - which we don't. So their help is invaluable.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply toprunus

Wow! Don't think we have anything like that in Germany!

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toConstance13

Are you anywhere near the Bodensee?

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply toprunus

No! Mid west Germany. Bad Sassendorf.😀

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toprunus

Believe it or not, here in northern Italy I am closer to Bodensee than Constance. It's 4 hours and 328 km for me, It is over 5 1/2 hours and 600km for her!! Germany is a big country!

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toPMRpro

I can believe that. I used to love swimming in the Bodensee. With her calling herself Constance I wondered if she lived near it.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toprunus

Did you live there or just go on holiday?

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toPMRpro

It's a long story but we went and stayed with friends of my father. I loved going there. They are all dead now. Latterly we flew to Stuttgart.

Really happy to hear PALS have been able to help out and that hubby is on his way back!! Make sure you take it easy because now you will be starting to visit him at least once a day and it's hard work. Love YBB

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toYellowbluebell

Can't speak too highly about either PALS lady. This morning though I have heard nothing so am trying to take my mind off the matter by replying to all you dear people. They are bringing him straight home I believe. I don't think Hillingdon have been helpful. Maybe we suffer from being so close to Heathrow.

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell in reply toprunus

I am pleased they are bringing him home instead. Just remember to take care of yourself as well. Debxx

prunus in reply toYellowbluebell

There's no place like home - but my sons are wondering how it will go.

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell in reply toprunus

Are they able to help you? If not you may need to see what outside help you can get.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toprunus

That is fine - as long as they have arranged social care support.

Well done for all your heroic efforts. I echo all the sentiments about hoping it all goes smoothly and the strain begins to lift and you are able to rest easy.🌻🌼

prunus profile image

It's still stressful at the moment not knowing.

jinasc profile image
jinasc in reply toprunus

Prunus, when he gets home, make sure you get a call into your GP and ask him to make a home visit asap as your husband has just come from Yeovil by ambulance and you really need his support today.............do not let the receptionist put you off.........insist and if they won't let you speak to your GP. immediately ask for the Practice Manager. The last thing most GPs want is a complaint.

Hope he is home soon and safely in bed with a cuppa and you with a big 😊

prunus profile image
prunus in reply tojinasc

Thanks for that. We have a lovely Community Matron and I'm planning to contact her once he is here.

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell in reply tojinasc

Definitely agree with this advice. You need to get support asap.

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toYellowbluebell

Right. Wondering if I should ring the CM before he comes?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toprunus

I would,

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell in reply toprunus

Idont see why you cant alert them to this and maybe arrange for a gp call this afternoon.

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toYellowbluebell

Our GP is noted for not doing home visits. The only time we have ever seen him was when a Consultant had him come.

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell

If he refuses to come out he really needs to be reported as your husband isnt in a position to go to him at the moment. If you are worried in anyway you can call 111 and see what they say.

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell

Did hubby get back.ok? Hope you are both doing well

prunus profile image
prunus in reply toYellowbluebell

I have just done a post. It is the first time today I have had a minute. He was so tired last night I think he had got past being able to get to bed without help. It is a long journey even when you are well. Thanks for all your help.
