I am looking for ways of helping myself. I now have galloping diabetes prednisolone induced plus GCA and a new Anti coagulant. I have refused allendronic acid I just cannot cope with any more. I would like to add some vitamins such as Turmeric Does anyone have experience of this. I am still waiting for a Consultant appointment . I have seen now up to 5 different GPs not by choice.
Any advice on vitamins is most welcome.

I try to follow a sort of red green veg and fish chicken diet. When I was on warfarin I couldn't do that. I do enjoy a lot of fruit. I read about the Turmeric and its possible impact on inflammation hence my query.
If you search “Turmeric” there should be lots of posts about it popping up. I can’t take it as a supplement because it has unfortunate consequences the next day.
Turmeric isn't a vitamin but I know several people who have used it in cooking and say they could tell if they had missed using it.
However - you say you are on an anticoagulant - turmeric is not advised together with anticoagulants as it has an anticoagulant effect itself. I imagine using it in cooking is probably OK but I certainly wouldn't take the capsules sold in health stores as supplements.
To help deal with the weight gain, cut your carbohydrate intake drastically, especially processed food which will cut both your carb and your salt intake. Both carbs and salt contribute to fluid retention. Pred changes the way your body processes carbs and removing unnecessary ones helps reduce weight gain. There are lots of discussions on the forum about a low carb diet.
Thankyou I actually have lost weight nearly a stone and a half. I am trying to not lose too much more. This happened naturally. The diet was in reply to SnazzyD question.
Perhaps increase your plant based fats and protein plus reduce carbs to stabilise the blood sugar. That way you’ll get more calories but less of the glucose boosting stuff.
I think a good balanced diet is preferable to taking supplements where possible which normally just boost the supplement manufacturers’ profits. Having said that if your doctor recommends a supplement because you may be low in something also people with PMR/GCA should be taking vit D and calcium that is different.
There was another post a few months ago , I believe it was titled "Turmeric" that I put a detailed description on about using it, and how it might help , and when it is helpful.
I hope you can find it by going through the search , or maybe a more Tech Savvy Forum member than me may have been following it and be able to reply with the link to the original post. It may even be in the titles in the right hand side bar of related posts on your post page if you look in that list .
Other posts on turmeric will also be there for you to read too.
If not , you could look through my old replies by pressing my avatar symbol or contact me and I will give more details to help you.
I've tried Tumeric. My GP says his Indian mother swears by it
It didn't help my PMR or any joint problems but it did upset my digestion.
However golden milk which is milk heated with turmeric, honey and a tiny bit of black pepper works great for me for sore throats, coughs and colds.
I take evening primrose oil, omega 3 fish oil and a multivitamin (have done for most of my life as I have bad IBS and my GP suggested this would be a good idea).
I stopped taking glucosamine as my rheumy said I was wasting my money on that.
My gp suggested I try Green lipped muscle extract which is supposed to help joints. I gave it a try for 3 months but didn't see any difference so I stopped.
