Ah thrush 😖 . As you probably know the Candida fungus lives in the body and causes a problem when the conditions are right for it to party. This can be lowered immune system, too much sugar or diabetes, damaged mucus layer down below (over washing or use of hygiene products)t, loss of bacteria in the gut that keeps Candida down,.hormonal influences, thin vagival skin post menopause .Do any of those ring true?Taking tablets might work but it soon creeps back if the conditions don’t change.

Thank you Snazzy yes understand contributing factors causing thrush

Perhaps I will make GP appointment x ask if going on specific antibiotic as a preventive would help as my Rheumatologist said I will need to continue on these steroids this time for 3-5yrs

Thank you for support

Hi Littlefish, it’s a fungus infection so antibiotics won’t help. In fact they might make things worse. I usually get thrush if I have to have an antibiotic for a chest infection, so I usually try to fight it off without taking one.

Steroids don’t cause thrush for me, but my friend who has Lupus, always gets it whenever she takes steroids.

It’s an awful dose. My tip would be to consume live natural yogurt from both ends 😉.

It’s nice to eat and very soothing down there too.

Thank you GerriMc

I have tried yogurt both ends but it doesn’t get rid of it

I will have to see doctor about it now

Yes, this plus chelitis and fungal toe. Nice. I cut out all sugar (except naturally occurring). No alcohol (tea total three years now). Got rid of all three (until chelitis seems to have come back recently with tapering probs). Good luck. X

Thank you Pongo 13 hope your situation improves too

Don’t take sugar in tea but do like cake biscuits will probably have to cut back now on that

Don’t drink alcohol anyway so that’s not contributing to problem

Thank you for support

Good luck to you also

Thanks! Ps. Since going healthy full fat, the weight has been steady in a good way, in spite of steroids. If I do have sugar in a cake (sometimes you cannot avoid) I ping awake with hunger pangs in the middle of the night. Sleeping is an issue so for me it's a definite no no! X

Have your dr. give you a prescription for diflucan. Works wonders.

You probably need something more effective from the doctor - not an antibiotic, they often lead to thrush getting worse, an antifungal that you use for a while.

Tradtionally, yoghurt is said to be cooling and helpful. Yes - used topically.

Spoke with pharmacist he said GP May px a particular antibiotic specific for thrush long term to prevent so it’s off to the GP for me

Hopefully will get some relief

Thank you all for support

Since being diagnosed 4+ years ago I've had a re-occurring problem with what I assume is thrush. Every so often I get a burning, red, raw rash in my groin. It can pop up very suddenly. The doctor prescribed a 1:1 compound of nystatin and hydrocortisone, which clears up the problem in 2 or 3 days.

I had that - but with PMR, not pred. I was given a topical cream that works wonders, trimovate, but I can't get it here.
