So another quick update. Started on 15mg Pred for 2 days taken around 7am with little change to pain and morning stiffness, upper and to 20mg for the past 5 days and have finally found relief. I have taken the single dose at around 3am when I woke in the last 3 days. I have no difficulty getting out of bed...well no physical difficulty. I'm conscious of the need to take things easy. Is it correct to think that starting Pred it has a backlog of inflammation to address as well as the daily task? Is that why it particularly important to give the Pred time to work? Oh, and I have had some noticeable arm pain again around 7pm that isn't too bad. I'm also consciously adopting a locarb/ low sodium diet. Feeling more hopeful in this early phase and thankful considering the difficulties some of you have faced. Yeah for Pred while it's my ally...I'll worry about it later when its not.

It sounds like you are managing your condition very well. Good for you getting on top of the weight thing before it starts. I wish I had. As for the inflammation, I believe that it tops up every day in the early hours of the morning. Some people try to head it off at the pass by taking Pred at around 2am. I didn’t feel much difference. Of course the disease is always rumbling away in the background, I expect that there is a bit of rogue inflammation all the time. You really need to pace your activities, you are still pretty ill. Have you been doing something like walking the dog that might explain the arm pain? PMR makes our muscles very intolerant of exertion.

I confess that I gave my Doglette a furtive glance after reading your latter comment. Thank you. I take it this is just while I'm in this first phase settling down? 😄

"Is it correct to think that starting Pred it has a backlog of inflammation to address as well as the daily task?"

It can be - which is why you need to stick at the starting dose until the symptoms are well under control - and , if it applies, the blood markers are heading formly for normal range, preferably are there. Discomfort may arise earlier if you take the pred earlier - you possibly woldn't have noticed when in bed, just because you expect to still be doing things (walking dog, lifting pans) in the early evening.

It's like you ladies are flies on my wall. First SheffieldJane catching the dog walk yesterday and now you added the lifting the heavy pan...tonight.
