Thanks PMRpro. Seeing Dr this week. I'm going to have a chat before taking. Twice I've got to 7.5 mg prenisolone and had a flare. I hoped it could help to get me further. I'm also having terrible pain in both hips and sleeping at night a nightmare. I know my journey so far is nowhere near some but bit tired and fed up and willing to try alternatives. 😞

Where is the hip pain? If it is on the outside, about where you can feel your hip bone, it could well be trochanteric bursitis, often part of PMR and once it gets established in PMR neither exercises nor increasing the oral pred dose will help much or quickly. I had it badly at the start and it took a good 6 months for it to fade on oral pred at well above 10mg. A steroid injection - and it is gone in a few days for me.

I can't remember how long you have been on pred - but getting to 7.5mg twice just tells you that is just below the dose you are looking for: the lowest dose that manages the symptoms as well as the starting dose did. It is a low dose, similar to the amount of corticosteroid your body makes naturally, getting the dose lower won't alter the amount of steroid circulating in your body as it limits what it makes to just top it up. Trying to force a reduction - however you do it - just runs the risk of triggering a flare which then becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

It doesn't mean you won't get lower, just not yet. The signs are that over time the autoimmune process that causes the inflammation fades slowly. As that happens you will get to a lower dose - but you can't overtake, however much you want to.

It's taken me years - and I still can't get to 7mg reliably!

Thanks PMRpro.

I need you to reel me in sometimes. I think the hip pain may be bursitis. The pain is like a burning ache and goes from hip joint to halfway. down side of leg . I use cold packs and that helps. Saw a Dr a couple of months ago who prescribed co.codamol. seeing my own Dr Weds see what he says.

Could it be sciatica?

Don't think so piglette. Have had sciatica and it's not the same. Plus it's both hips

Codeine phosphate and paracetamol 8/500mg. Stronger painkiller. Subscription only.

The "they" was referring to the doctors! I know what cocodamol is - and it doesn't do a lot for PMR or bursitis!!!

I heard about this CBD oil today and as I am on warfarin, googled to see if it has any interaction. It seems that it does, it makes the blood even thinner and also makes the warfarin stay in the system longer.

So be careful all Warfarin patients.
