Hi Pixie,... yep, thrush comes visiting when I eat white carbs and stone fruits. Mangos and wheat based foods seem to be the worst culprits .

When I feel my tongue tingling, I know its time to stop the white carbs, and start oral salt rinses. Usually takes a week to rid the yeasty beasties, and be more careful in future.

I have not chosen pharmaceutical remedies, as my home remedies seem to take care of the problem.

Good luck to you, Jerri

Yes I've had oral thrush, initially bought some meds over the counter but had to get s prescription med from dr which has sorted it. Before my diagnosis, I had fungal toe and recurring thrush in intimate place which I self-treated and put down to being run down (well PMR had set in unbeknown to me). I cut out sugar now, apart from naturally occurring. I have a tooth brush cleaner now and always use mouth wash. Good luck.

Tooth brush cleaner? Never heard of such a thing, have been chucking mine away frequently and steeping in salt water (makes it soft!).

Off to google, thanks!

I had thrush in the beginning of my PMR in the fall when I had pneumonia and had to go on a steroid inhaler I think it sent me over the edge. I learned that soaking a toothbrush after each use and mouthwash and running it through the dishwasher is also effective I have an electric toothbrush so I'm not throwing it away LOL.

Hello, whilst it can come with Pred because it is suppressing your immune system, it can also be a sign of diabetes when the blood sugar is consistently higher than it should be. If you haven’t already done so it might be worth getting your blood sugar checked as in the HbA1c, the 3 month average. Urine dip test not reliable and the ordinary blood sugar is just the level at the moment it is taken. It is possible that the average comes out ok if your spikes are balanced out with relatively low ones, so you might not be diabetic but you have enough highs to get the thrush fungus excited.

Lots of people develop thrush.

Yoghurt is said to help too - eating and topically depending on where it is...

I think it came from doubling my dose of pred for a recent bad flareup. That, of course, upped my blood sugar. Can't win😕 I already am pretty mindful of diet. Picked up a prescription for Nystatin mouthrinse but guess it'll take awhile. Sigh.....
