Thrush

Been having bad film in mouth and food tastes nasty all the time. Going on for weeks now. Thinking it’s thrush. I’m always brushing and tongue cleaning but it seems coated slightly. Does this sound like thrush. Is there a lab test?

I'm sure they can culture it from a swab of any patches in your mouth. But your doctor should be able to recognise it.

PMRPro is right, doctor will recognise it. I had it about 3 times following antibiotics, I left it too long and it travelled down by throat, wasnt sore but I lost my voice.

So go and see doctor, there is nothing you can really buy over the counter for oral thrush.

You can buy OTC preps, but best to get it from GP, should be cheaper/free from doc.

It’s another pred problem! Our immune response is low, and blood glucose runs higher than norm. Thrush likes sugar.

I’ve had it a couple of times since pred. You need nystatin. I have found salt water gargles or bicarbonate (baking powder) help as they prevent conditions that fungus likes. The other REALLY helpful thing is to cut dietary carbs so the sugar content throughout the body is minimised.

Hi Alish, i make a practice of keeping a small bottle of salt water (1/2tsp to 1 tsp. salt to 1 cup water) on my bathroom shelf. I use that saline solution to rinse/swish my mouth every time i visit the bathroom. It has been effective in keeping my yeasty mouth from becoming a problem,..... without nystatin, etc.

it is also important to know that yeast feeds on sugar [ CARBS!! ]. The more you can restrice white carbs, (pasta, pastry, sugar, etc., ), the less likely you will need to resort to pharmaceutical remedy.

I have noticed that my tongue begins to “tingle” when yeast starts to colonize, Thus i begin brushing my to tongue with baking soda/salt, and rinsing with saline rinse.

It works for me, along with restricting the white carbs❣️ I eat lots of colored carbs... beets, carrots, green veggies, etc.!

When you get on top of current infection by whatever means you choose, chuck your toothbrush away, then change at least monthly. I rinse my brush with salt water before leaving it to dry. Store your brush separately from family toothbrushes.

Plain organic pro biotic yoghurt I found cured the thrush in my mouth. Take it with the pred.

I have had thrush several times while on Prednisone, but most severe when taking Methotrexate. Be sure to get checked by your doctor, I have had other mouth infections besides thrush.

Good luck. These mouth infections can be painful if not treated properly.

I have had oral thrush too since being on Pred. I use a Colloidal silver spray to keep it in check. Its antifungal and works for me.

Just been Dr got mouth thrush to.Its dreadful has given me Nystatin so hope it works.Good luck.x

Gargle with 20ppm of colloidal silver 3 times per day fixes my thrush.

I just had thrush as well..took nyastatin which was nasty ..wish I had known about the salt water and colloidal silver ...I would have tried it first ..
