ALEDRONIC ACID TABLETS
Hi lionking50
Must admit I've been taking AA tabs for 2 and half years with no problems, although a lot of people don't seem to be so lucky.
Do you feel nauseous just after you've taken tabs or all the time? If it's just after, are you following instructions - plenty of water with tablet and keeping upright and not eating or drinking for 30 mins. If it's all the time, then I would suggest you talk to GP to see if you really need them ( lots of people dispute they are required, except if you're prone to osteoporosis). You may be able to go on the monthly tablets - I am assuming you're on the weekly one - or maybe you can be prescribed something else instead. Hope so, there's nothing worse than a feeling of nausea all the time , although you should already be on Lansoprozole or similar for that. DorsetLady
yes i couldn't take them my gp let me have ibandronic acid which for me don't give me any side effects and the best bit you only take one a month. beware gps don't like prescribing them cos they cost an arm and a leg.
Does it last all week? If so, tell your GP.
AA is the first choice, costing about £5 per month (4 tablets). Ibandronic acid is the second choice and costs about £23 per month (1 tablet).
So no, I don't agree it costs and arm and a leg. For avoiding nausea and improving compliance I think that is a fair price relationship so broach it with your GP.
Thanks for your replies I have been taking the1 a week tablet and the correct instruction how to take them.

I have taken them for about 2 years. I found for the first 3 weeks I felt very light hades and had to go back to bed for about 3 hours. Settled after that though, and have had no problems since, but if it is lasting theoughout the say speak to GP their are alternatives. Good luck x
I couldn't take AA either so am on one a week Risedronate Sodium no problem with that.
Nausea and heartburn is perfectly normal. They don`t work if you stop and start. You should ask your GP for an alternative- good luck with that.
Hi lionking50, I suffered the same as you, plus when I had a bone scan it was found that AA was not working for me. My Rheumatologist then prescribed a 2 year course of daily injections Forsteo which did improve my bone density a little. Now I am on Risedronate once a week with no side effects. Mind you, I am 78 and have lost over 5" in height because of 7 fractures of the vertebrae, plus several other bone fractures so I think the injections were the last resort for me.
Go back to your Doctor and tell him of the problem you are having. By the way I was advised not to take Adcal on the same day as AA. Made no difference to me though.
Take care and I do hope things improve for you.

I took adcal before I was prescribed the AA (osteopenia)so I know it was the Adcal made me feel nauseous.Dissolving calcium didn't suit either as I don't like fizzy drinks. I now take calcichew which despite the name will almost melt in the mouth and can be taken food which I have read is the best way for the calcium to be absorbed. I was changed to Ibandronic (once a month) because the time waiting for the AA and then another half hour at least after Parkinsons meds before being able to eat, al the while aching from the PMR/pred. was not very pleasant or convenient if going out and and also
taking the pill a day either side of the due date is no big deal
As for as cost is concerned, the boxes of unused Adcal can't be value for money whereas I take the calcichew faithfully every day.
