TOA advice!

hi all,

Looking for some advice after seeing previous posts about tuboovarian abscess. I was admitted to hospital for 5 days approx 3 weeks ago after waking with severe abdominal pain, which I initially thought may be appendicitis. Prior to this I had experienced mild right lower abdominal pain for about 3-4 weeks which I’d seen the GP for who arranged bloods and an ultrasound. The ultrasound demonstrated a calcification on my right ovary and my bloods showed mild inflammation and raised CA125 of 45.

Whilst admitted to hospital I had IV antibiotics, CTAP & USS both scans showed fat stranding and inflammation around my right ovary and the consultant advised that I had likely developed PID from my copper IUD causing sepsis and TOA.

All STD screening was negative, blood cultures were negative. since discharge I have had 10 days of oral antibiotics which finished approx 1 week ago, I’ve noticed over the past few days the pain has started to increase, I have submitted an econsultation with my GP but concerned this could be the TOA getting worse? Has anyone had a similar experience.

I was told very little whilst in hospital and my GP has not been able to fill in the blanks.

Hi goldmonkey_ ,

I'm sorry to hear you're in pain. I strongly advise that you seek medical attention right away, as you may need further evaluation and treatment.

I had similar , copper coil infected, CT scan showed tubo ovarian abscess, reoccurring pelvic pain. Had two different bouts of iv drip and then oral antibiotics on discharge, but year later abscess is still there. Now been told will need surgery on fallopian tubes and possibly one ovary. Ask for repeat CT scan and other options like drainage of abscess or surgery. Let us know how you get on ! Hope you feel better soon
