I get one if I strain. Don't get constipated! Anusol ointment worked well in the past but I believe it no longer has any steroid in it so do not know what it is like now.

Hi, I use to suffer with these recurrently. What worked for me in the end was taking CosmoCol drink which is a Macrogol stool softener, one sachet every evening about an hour before I went to bed. It helps keep your stool soft and therefore aids recovery and healing time. I took this continuously for quite a few months and then moved it down to every other day and then eventually came off it. Haven't had fissures now for almost 2 years since that!

I discovered the squatty potty a few months ago & am amazed at how much it reduces the need to strain. That might help you. It's basically a foot stool that puts your pelvis into a more squat-like position. If you search online you will find information about it. There are lots of different makes & several heights available. My physio specialises in women's health & she's very keen on it. It took a few days for me to get the seating position right but now it's great! Also using the low core & pelvic floor muscles can reduce the need to strain.

Sorry, I should have been more clear - the squatty potty is a foot stool that you use with a regular toilet - not an actual potty! Daft name. 😂
