I know I not in the right category... But I was recently diagnosed with an anal fissure. I was wondering if any has had the surgery for one? I'm scared to death. Trying to make the right decision. Please any input would help. Thanks

Hi I have 2 ... one is slightly out ... I use cream ... rectolgesic... it gives instant head ache ...

No surgery ..

I had STARR few years ago . ask lots of questions don't rush for surgery .

Never have Starr and make sure you get them to sign to say they won't do that.

It gives urgency 24/7 very very painful and not worth the risks. I still have issued.

Look at support groups . Ask for patient experiences. Ask doctor to write in detail what he she will do.

Good luck x

Google STARR it's a very nasty procedure that cuts part of the rectum out.....

I had an anal fistula and surgery about 20. Yrs ago. It seemed to go well. Sometimes I have some discomfort from scar tissue.

Hello....thanks for responding to my post. Do you regret having the surgery? What discomfort are you having? I'm just trying to weight my options. I heard the surgery way was my effective and doesn't take long. I just don't want any set backs.

It was fine and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

I had anal fissures for years after my children were born. I also suffered with constipation. Hated to have a bowel movement because I feared the instant pain and bleeding. They were extremely painful. I never heard of surgery for them. I got to the point of putting Vaseline on my anus and eventually they healed themselves. Sorry you're having a hard time, hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Wow just Vaseline? My GI doctor had me to put this compound ointment I'm using right now. I'm just weighing my options right now. I have it them for about two years now. I don't want a set back. Thanks for the information.

can i ask you what symptoms you had.

Spasms, can't sit or stand for alone time. Hard surface are the worst! Why do you ask? Having watery stools are also terrible.

thanks May for answering my question.

The reason i ask is because i'm 6 years without a diagnosis except for the easy IBS solution when the medics dont have a clue or cant be bothered.

my colonoscope was unsuccessful due to the amount of pain so i am now on a 2 year waiting list to have another go-this time under general anesthetic.

i was prescribed muscle relaxant tablets by a urologist a few months ago and recently stopped taking them as i got so huge around my middle but my weight ok.

i am delighted i dont have any pain so am keeping my fingers x

Hello, how are you doing? Are you still on the forum? Just curious about how your fissure is and your health now. My husband has at least one fissure and has had it since early dec 2019. Just wondering what helped heal your fissure? Thank you, Sara
