Ive rec'd letter offering phone consultation to assess my condition ..has anyone else had such a letter...is this part of the NHS saying they are treating you without actually seeing you??

I'm not sure how they can assess you with this condition over the phone but would be interested to hear your views.

Thank you.

Should have added that have only 'mild' prolapse but referred to Gynae and on hosp waiting list so the letter was a surprise to me ...and thought this action of receiving letter was to 'placate' patients??

Many hospitals are using a triage system of phone calls to assess if you need to been seen or not.

It's not satisfactory and just prolongs the wait if they do decide to see you face to face.

I have prolapse bladder but developed a prolapse in the bowel about 4 years later. I have a ring pessary for the bladder prolapse. I am being assessed for a possible medical procedure but other than the holding phone calls every six months no progress being made. I had some assessments back in 2019 in person but further exploration of bowel issue was to happen and Covid scuppered all that. I have intermittent soiling due to the prolapse bowel. It’s fine at times but I can get a bad couple of days. Avoiding straining essential as that sets it off. I have no idea what will eventually happen but I am not anticipating it will be anytime soon. I do exercises for both areas in the hope of an improvement. I am under Guy’s and Thomas’s Hospital in London. I had an appointment person due today and got a call last week postponing that until Feb 2022. I don’t know if one impacts the other and if there is a negative impact if it carries on without an operation to correct.

If I need to do a poo I couldn’t not hold on indefinitely like I used to be able to. Hard to control wind. After a poo I can wipe till it’s absolutely clean and more will come out as hoc so a pad and wipes constantly in action on a bad day. It is as if the natural ‘plug’ is not working properly. Walking can make this issue worse. I went to a specialist physio who measured the function of pelvic floor and anus. Pelvic floor is 5/5, when walking drops to 4 out of 5, and anus is only 3 out of 5 which means the muscle tone there is not good. I don’t know if the prolapse bladder, ring pessary contributed to this problem. Sorry about the gory details but the reality is lots of us have these issues though they aren’t discussed as openly as they should be. Good luck with your procedure and hope it brings a solution. I did have colon cancer which was caught in the early stages and none of my current problems are anyway related to that.

Sorry to hear you have been unwell. After my daughter had a baby in January she went to a pelvic floor special physio, seemingly a lot of young mums go for help. I asked if she saw grannies too, and had a consultation and need to do lots of daily exercises to improve tone. It will take time so the jury’s out until I have a few months under my belt. My muscular anal function is only 3 out of 5 but hopefully through exercises I might improve on that. My next app is the end of October. I will let you know how I get on. There is also plugs available but I have not used one of these yet as I have not felt the need. October now put back to Feb 2022! The wait continues.
