Prolapse but not had kids?

Hi can I ask has anyone had a prolapse that haven’t had children? I’m nearly 40 no kids and have recently felt something isn’t right inside the front wall (I think) of my vagina. I also had a couple of weeks where I thought I had a water infection so took antibiotics as I was peeing all the time. I’m not peeing constantly as I was before the antibiotics but still more frequently than I normally would.

I have booked a smear but can’t be seen until 10th Feb should I wait or book with a GP. I’m so stressed out thinking could it be cancer etc but no other symptoms other than a bit of discomfort around my vagina when wearing tight clothing etc.

Has anyone had similar? All the stories I read are of people with kids.

I did do quite a lot of heavy lifting in the summer which did cause quite abit of discomfort at the time but then I thought nothing of it.

Yes I have a prolapse and I haven’t had kids. Heavy lifting can cause it. Hormones can play a part also as we get to pre menapausal. Pelvic floor exercises may help otherwise there are pessary rings which can push it back. Mine is a rectocele so is bowel rather than bladder related so might be slightly different help you need. I would go see your GP and ask for referral to see specialist.

Yes! I began to think I was the only childless one to get a prolapse when I started looking into it, so don't worry, you are not alone, good to hear from you though of course I'm sorry it happened to you. We could speculate forever as to what caused ours - heavy lifting, a coughing fit, weak ligaments, ageing - one of life's mysteries. There seems to have been very little research into prolapse in childless women, unfortunately. It just seems to be some women's lot in life.

Hi thank you for replying to me, I am guilty of lifting and a couple of months ago when we moved house I lifted box after box of heavy tiles and felt something go in sure I did! Can I ask how you knew you had one and what your symptoms have been please? Xxx

Everyone's is different, I expect - 2017 - I squatted to pick a phone up that was on the floor, remained squatting while I was nattering, felt something rub in my underwear, looked and there it was! I went, "OMG! something's sticking out of my f*nn*!" It was a grade 3 uterine prolapse. I never felt anything wrong until I saw it! I'd never even heard of it. I wish it was more widely known and talked about, as maybe there would've been ways to prevent it if only I'd known it could happen. We should be warned against heavy lifting. It it's weak ligaments, I have no living female relatives but if you have, it's worth asking, as perhaps it runs in families. You might pinpoint it to when you picked up those tiles, if it happened straight after. I feel sometimes like there's concrete in my pelvis as everything must have sunk, but otherwise, having it hang outside my body is the main symptom when I'm not wearing a pessary to keep it in. Other women say they felt falling sensations and back-ache beforehand. If it feels like the front wall it's more likely to be a cystocele (bladder) so symptoms might not be the same. Seems everyone replying has a different kind of prolapse! I think no tight clothes, nor synthetic fibres next to the skin is a good idea. GPs aren't always clued-up on prolapse, but I suggest you get an appointment with yours for a diagnosis straight away. Good luck.
