I am 50 and at the beginning of the year I started getting horrible pelvic pain during and after my periods. I have a small fibroid but my scan looked clear. Bleeding is so heavy though and pain is like giving birth. Anyone else feel this way and been told everything looks fine?

Hi

I’m not quite in the same boat but started having pelvic discomfort - as though starting a period, cramp like clenching and heat, almost, and especially when lying down - in February this year. I mentioned it to nurse who did CA125 and it was raised. Not sure what it was the first time, but second time it was 65 then 48. GP sent me for external ultrasound which showed nothing except free fluid in pouch of Douglas. Now I have a telephone gynae appointment on 16th (with a fertility (!) gynaecologist - I’m 52 although still have monthly periods and on HRT) so I have little faith that this phonecall will achieve anything.

I don’t have terrible heavy periods just painful ones and that’s always been the case since I was 12.

Have you had CA125?

Was it an ultrasound you had? They seem to be the most useless scans unless it’s a baby they’re wanting to see. An MRI or laparoscopy is really what is needed. Hey ho. No wonder so many women ... 😕
