New here so hi.saw hospital last week have grade 3 uterine 2 for rectal and bladder.she suggested popping a pessary in.didnt see what it was.stung briefly when put in then asked to walk round office.if it fell down told to push it back up ..prescription for vagiderm I think.looked when I got home .so nice not to see that darned bulge and could see white plastic at top of vagina.she said take it easy for a couple weeks.had read you are not supposed to feel them but have been getting stinging on one one side and haven’t a clue how to get those tablets in at the right angle.grew up with that area is private.have had constipation last couple of days.txtd Secretary at weekend and she has got me a slot tonight so consultant can take it out then discuss what to do.Disappointed as hoped fitting would be done first time .am a widow on my own and feeling pretty down with all this at the moment

Hi Shuki,

I am in UK midlands 73yrs old. I am back to my specialist for a different shaped pessary fitting tomorrow.

Evidently there are various ones on the market.

I also have a form of Muscular Dystrophy causing hand weakness. No chance of getting the pessary out. I had one in for 2 months during lockdown very uncomfortable,

eased some symptoms.

My new consultant has left me with none for 6 weeks. I was transfered over as I asked about surgery at consultation with first consultant.I have been popping in Estrogen tablets to my vagina[ I hope] for the last 6 weeks to help with healing and pain.

I am not getting any worse.

There is a Health Unlock post last week I think that might help you.

The consultants do not volunteer information here.I was told nothing about the proceedure by either consultant.

Have you been given any written information or a websit to help with knowing what to expect after Pessary fitting? If so could you pass it to me.

I sent this to my consultants secretary last night.

I am happy to ask questions for you tomorrow.

After today having pessarie fitted.

Should I get any discomfort? Do I need to give pessarie time to settle in?

If so how long?

At present and for the last 2 weeks I am having to get to the toilet quickly regularly, this is increasing.

I am getting very little backache.

Generally the feeling of discomfort sitting down is diminishing.

Hi non fiction reader saw consultant last night she had a look said yes it’s normal to see the bottom of the ring where it was and the size 77mm and fitting was correct.showed me one she had fitted😳😳lol but explained it goes in and up not sideways😀she said she had shown me but I said I said I didn’t look just shut my eyes and breathed out while she did it!agreed I’d leave it in and give it a go.worked out I was tensing up so much after fitting is why I needed to go wee all the time and constipated, got that info from another site.so put candles on last night and relaxed and can notice a difference.think I was holding my breath and tensing because I thought it was going to come out.did get an ouch moment last night when I turned over in bed and was a small smear of blood but she had been in there So not worried about that.think I’m so conscious I have plastic in there I’m worrying.walking around is better since I’ve relaxed a bit ,still slight niggle when sitting down too long but I’ve always had that anyway.it just takes all your confidence away doesn’t.only been out twice since lockdown and both trips to hospital.but I’m content in my own company since my husband passed.i just feel useless and scared of doing things which isn’t like me but can’t change it so just got to face it head on.Setting myself little goals.she did say she’d take it out and see how I got on but to be honest I didn’t move off the settee for weeks when my prolapse suddenly got worse ..tips my gp gave me when u wee slowly breathe out and it is easier.i was tensing up thinking it would come out when I passed water so felt pressure and walked like I was sitting on a horse(I’ve got to keep a sense of humour!)hope you get on okay with your fitting xstill got to get the nerve to use those vagidem tablets in there..

Hi Shukl,

Just had a phone call from my consultants secretary in reply to questions I emailed a couple of days ago.

Consultant will go over things with me tomorrow. As I have to go in alone I am hoping I can remember the answers.

Tip its always worth emailing if you can your consultants secretary.

keep safe,

Hi there, sorry to hear your on going problems. I am 69 years old and just had a cystocele op 12 days ago. Op done internal by the vagina and stitches, very little pain mainly discomfort only needed paracetamol for 4 days I was up and walking the next day came home and have been doing light duties around the house. No hoovering or lifting anything heavy. I feel good, I suffered this for 44 years when carrying my third child. I hope this helps. Best regards

Hi thanks for posting.i seem to have good days then not but definitely if I get constipated.this seems to be a common side effect (why are these things not explained.would you like a pessary and wham it’s up there!)so am having lots of casseroles porridge and loads of water.definitely helping but I think it’s stupidly psychological as well especially going toilet as I know what’s there.silly isn’t it?il have to work through it and relax because at least I haven’t got that awful bulge But it has dented my confidence I won’t go out the house.i need to get a grip lol.funny enough my neighbour who is only 43 was suffering with prolapse uterus usual pessary and after a couple weeks she said enough couldn’t get on with it as she owns her business and was on her feet all day so she said basically they sewed her up with uterus pushed up col something or other which is quicker than hysterectomy and recovery time and to be perfectly honest I will ask for that because I’ve put up with it over 20 years and the last few months when it got really bad.i just want to do normal stuff and not worry about sitting on a hard chair or never going anywhere and bending over to pick things up.got two new grandsons coming next couple months and I feel 80 not 60!got to get pro active and make a plan.gosh I do sound like a moaner today not like me at all lol xxhugs to your mum.i really think this is something that should be taught in school.forewarned is forearmed!right off to make a big veg casserole and going to stew some apples to mix in my porridge x

Did you have that colpocleisis surgery, Shukl? If so, I'd love to hear how it went. I decided not to have it yet but may decide to have it later on.
