Hi there!! About three years ago I was diagnosed with dysnergic defecation, coming from slow transit colon, levator-ani syndrome, pelvic dysfunction and Dysfunctional Bowel also colitis which caused haemmorage from colon.
Symptoms included pain and pressure in rectum, severe constipation, severe painful Bowel spasms which cause levator muscles to "lock" shutting down ability to pass Bowel motion. I have little to none feeling in rectum and now rely on daily trans-anal irrigation and manual extraction of Bowel waste. (sorry to be so detailed).
GOOD News!!!
I am supported by a specialist Bowel and bladder physio who monitors Bowel movement along with my consultant. Physio performs internal/external trigger point manipulation which helps to relax pelvic floor muscles. It is not a cure but helps with condition management.
I take antispasmodic and pain medication which helps with some of the pain.
It sounds as if you may have some pelvic dysfunction affecting your colon, I would recommend seeing a specialist physio who may be able to help with diagnosis and what treatment would be best for you.
Although these are not quite the same symptoms as my husband has experienced, he has been though a lot of pain in the rectal area. Here are a few suggestions:
Ketamine Infusions
1% Nefedipine topical ointment
Book - Headache in the Pelvis by Dr. Wise
You can call Dr. Wise and speak with him, he talked to us many times on the phone for free and is very helpful. I would recommend starting with calling Dr. Wise before going through any surgeries and making sure its not a chronic pain syndrome, because ketamine & relaxation therapies can really help.
I have similar and I just saw your reply to this post.... I was wondering how your husband is doing and any changes are any new procedures what treatments? How long has he had this I have had the rectal pain which started suddenly about 16 months ago and I have been in pelvic floor physical therapy for about 10 months with some weeks in between missed but anyway I have been using muscle relaxers and gabapentin at night but all low dose and also I have spoken to dr. Wise and I am definitely doing a lot of his protocol and also I am starting the curable app which calms the nervous system down... I got the diltiazem cream which is the same as the niphedepine of pain cream about a year ago and it just irritated me so I had to stop using it... I also do stretching exercises at home and breathing which as we know is important.... I believe I got mine from severe stress and holding my stress with pelvic floor clenching and straining during bowel movements... I have had CT scan MRI. All ok.. no colonoscopy yet because I've been afraid of spasms coming back if I did that but I'm a lot better than I was a year ago and I figure I found some things that help and I actually have no pain most days now sometimes after bowel movement I'll have the flare for a while but it calmd down way faster than it used to... I may look into the ketamine infusions but so far I'm doing okay and I just wanted to reply to you I think I've spoken to you once before but anyway it's no harm in having contact with other people with the same symptoms
Oh I wanted to add that my pelvic floor physical therapist said that when the brain starts experience less pain then the sensitization will start calming down too , therefore the importance of controlling pain
