Hi I've already asked this before but I thought I would check in again to see if anyone has tried DCT for pelvic floor and if anyone has tried the curable app which is the mind-body training and if either one what results you have had? Thankyou

I've just ordered book from Amazon on DCT so let you know. Apparently there's an online course too.

I am part way through curable app. Seems to use up my data quickly and I don't have broadband WiFi at home. Goes through a lot of stuff on how we feel pain. Very interesting. I'm still not sure I buy this pain centralisation theory thing although know I feel worse if I'm stressed.

Hey - I joined DCT for Pelvic Floor around the end of December. I am 2 and a half months in. I like it and believe I will completely heal. I have been suffering from Pelvic Floor Pain for around 6-7 years. It took me a while to get diagnosed correctly and made some bad choices along the way due to "Professionals" giving me wrong information. I was around 80% when I started DCT. I do believe in 2020, I will reach 100%! It is a lot of hard work. I like to exercise so that has helped me to stick with it. My main issues with PFP are/were: tight pelvic floor muscles, chronic constipation, nerve pain in rectal area and right leg nerve pain, can't sit for long periods, digestive/stomach issues. I also see a chiropractor and a lady that is a LMT but she does body work on me, not really massages. She has helped with tension in my head/jaw area. The DCT really focuses on tension stretching and exercising the muscles around the pelvic floor area. I do the workouts pretty much like they suggest. I started out slow and continue to build up/increase my workouts. The website and FB page help with choosing my type of workouts. Doing DCT, the body goes through some weird changes but I try not to overthink/over-analyze....just keep working hard and healing. I believe in it.

Thanks !!I will decide soon!! I really can't spend the money unless I look into it and get an idea of what it's about first I mean I know it's not a lot and it's a lifetime membership but I'm on a fixed income

You are amazing! What is the DCT program? Could you please give me the web address. Thank you

Hey! DCT stands for Dynamic Contraction Technique. The website is freedomfrompelvicpain.com/ It focuses on resistance stretching and strengthening the muscles all around the pelvic floor: hip flexors, quads, hamstrings, psoas, abs, tfl...... If these muscles are stretched, relaxed and made stronger, it takes the pressure off of the pelvic floor and allows it to function like its supposed to. They explain it much better than me but that gives you an idea. I always felt like it was the surrounding muscles but didn't know how to correct it. I have tried pretty much everything so after researching DCT, I decided to give it a try. I can feel my body slowly changing. Once you join, you have access to their FB page. Its mainly men but there are some women in the group. Let me know if you join. Thanks!

How has progress been on DCT?

I like it. It is a lot of hard work. It takes time and you have to stick with it.

I suffer from PN pain for 9 years on right side, after bunion surgery (left foot) - I found relief from daily pain via hip joint steroid injections on right hip which has small labral tear until I had to have a second bunion surgery again on left foot. Now my symptoms have flared and the injection did not work this time. Pelvic PT has yet to help, trying it again after all these years.

I am planning on trying the Curable App because I recently started meditating just 10-15 mins a day and have found what seems like a mental shift in attitude towards the pain. I feel like trying to rewire my 'brain' can't hurt (i.e. like any surgery or other procedures could) so will post back here after awhile and let others know. Please post back if you end up trying it also.

I am also meditating and having done pelvic therapy for like eight months it definitely helped emotionally and physically but......my salon just shut down so I don't know if I can afford to buy the curable app I am still on to muscle relaxants and one gabapentin at night because my physical therapist said that if you keep being in pain then your brain will never change so I'm trying to keep the pain down as much as I can just so my brain will change and will not keep recognizing pain if that makes sense

I am so sorry to hear you are impacted with your business shutting down! After all the COVID-19 stuff started, I've had trouble focusing on following the app, but am still meditating. However, just the first couple of weeks on Curable, they educate you about how the brain and pain signals work, etc. the education alone has made a difference for me, by about 50% - so I really feel if I continue I can get to 90 or even 100%. If you can't afford app right now, there are a lot of free resources in places from Curable.com and Nicole Sachs. The subscription to Curable also includes access to their private Facebook group, which I have found really helpful to read other's experiences even though not everyone has pelvic pain - many have back pain, migraines, pelvic pain, fibromyalgia, etc. Stay safe and healthy!

Hi I'm just checking in to see how the curable app is working for you ...I still haven't done it but I downloaded the pathways free app which is very similar I think ...I would love to get your feedback ... I know there is a money back guarantee done curable so I may just bite the bullet and buy it but I'm going to try the pathways for a little while first

Hi! I hope you are back up and running with your salon? I have to admit, for whatever reason I kind of dropped the focus on the app itself after COVID hit, just some weird general feeling of everything being on hold. However, I have continued to listen to the podcasts offered, read a lot (and occasionally respond to) the facebook community posts and read/listen to other resources people post and continued meditation. And just doing this alone, I continue to see improvement. For example, I have re-engaged in doing Yoga in the last few weeks. This may not seem like much, but before pelvic/PN pain hit, I was super active - running, cycling, gym, pilates, yoga - 2 hrs a day most days of any combo. Over the first year of pain, I started associating flares with every form of exercise except walking so I stopped it all. But learning to think about pain differently, and realize that "just maybe" my pain had nothing to do with exercises, I have found I have successfully transitioned to doing Yoga again - so for me, this is huge progress. I chose Yoga because really, this should not cause injury or pain, plus it is another way to calm the nervous system. I also just find I am barely bothered by any significant pain now. Yes I feel it here and there but it is not as intense, so my biggest goal now is to slowly return to a more active lifestyle - if I can get that back (along with improved sex life - as we know pelvic pain is not great for this), then I consider it a success. So, I am still enthused with the program as a whole. These podcasts are free: curablehealth.com/podcast. The one on pelvic pain had a little enlightening nugget of info for me about breathing. There are also a couple of recovery stories that have to do with pelvic pain in there too I believe. Good luck, let me know what you think if you pursue any of it!

Hi DragonFly, can I DM you about this? I know this is an incredibly old thread but I'm hoping you're still about and doing better. I'd like to ask about the surgery and the pain as a consequence, if that's alright? Thanks.

Hi - sent you a DM through the chat feature on this site.

Thanks! Will have a look now :)

DCT is another tool in the box...it can work, there are some success stories.

If your pelvic pain is caused by tension in the fascia and muscles then several months of hard work may give you resolution. It is not the guaranteed cure for all pelvic pain that the advertisement suggests.

Downside - it is a business, they over-rate the chances of resolution, motivated by £€$.

The so-called open and friendly FB group they run is anything but - only interested in 'success stories'. A huge portion of members left to create their own group. Says a lot.

Having done it for over a year, every day, it has not worked for me yet.

I would still recommend it, if PT, yoga, medication etc have not helped you, this is worth a go. It is based around resistance stretching, which is a recognised methodology, so it's certainly not nonsense. But be prepared for hard work and no guarantees.

Oh yeah I spoke to David McCoid about the DCT program I'm looking into it

pelvicpainquestions in reply to

I concur, its a sales funnel. That said, resistance stretching can be incorporated into a home program (once stretching is not painful when connective tissue and TrPs are resolved somewhat)

Can you give me an example of resistance exercises for pelvic floor I'm not sure I understand it and I can't afford to do DCT at this time since I lost a lot of money due to the covid
