tight psoas muscle

after 7.5 years of undiagnosed pelvic pain and being shuttled from gynnos to urologists and digestive specialists, i have slipped a lumbar disc out of the blue.

of course they all told me its not related.

but when i went to a physiotherapist all was revealed.

apparently the psoas is the biggest and most important muscle.

when a person has a dodgy back this muscle compensates.

so it is all related.

this tightening is well known amongst pysiotherapists of fit people.

if anyone can tell me anything about this i am waiting your reply as i really haven't got my head around this yet.

I have tight psoas and I’m doing dynamic contraction technique to resolve it and my pain.

It took me ages to realise how the psoas connects in the pelvis and how I feel its relevant to my pain. They were so sore and tight so are dysfunctional and the DCT is specific (weird) exercises that really seem to be helping the muscle release in a way stretching does not. Its not easy stuff but I buy into it way more than alternatives through PT

thank you so much I have watched the you tube stretch can you use a tennis ball? or are you using the instrument they show? I only ask because my chrio and massage thrypist have me doing yoga (which has helped so very much) and a tennis ball

I paid for the DCT course online as there's no real videos showing the exercises in detail on you tube etc. Its very specific and there's no tennis ball.

thank you for your info. I am having success with yoga and haven't been able to work for some time so can't afford the course at this time from what I can see it doesn't look like something that would be safe for a prolapse repair person

Sure I don't know your circumstances, it works for me because stretching alone wasn't unlocking the muscles.

hello I am so glad you wrote of this I had pelvic floor repair surgery done approx. 3 yrs ago and as soon as I woke up I felt this hip pain that was not there before the surgery...it turns out all the hip and lower back pain along with groin pain is related to the position I was in for the repair surgery....it also is related to my nerve pain..my chiropractor believes the psoas was compromised and we proved this fact because when I had gotten pain free I had to have another surgery and am back where I started ...what has helped me the most is yoga and message therapy good luck I hope this helps

i am wondering if yoga or even pelvic floor exercises has brought on this tight psoas muscle problem..my therapist sez that my herniated disc is connected with the front pelvic pain. i've had that such a long time i cope but the sciatica feels like buckets of cold water running down my leg.

I truly don't know again we are all so different I know it took me almost 2 yrs. to be given the correct diog. my chiro. and herbalist feel that the psoas is enabling the pelvic nerves to be to tight if you will.....I do know that when I release the psoas and do yoga stretching my pain goes away however I still have a sensation of a ball in side the vag. however after yoga/and the release of the psoas the sensation of a ball is smaller so for me I feel I am finally on the right track.....I had a nerve block and it made me worse so I am not going that route if you are able try yoga but be sure you can with your disc problem

Hi, yes I have been told this too. I can’t remember if mine was too tight or too loose though.

Hi, I'm having same problems in my pelvis for 2 years-pain in tje psoas region-I did 5 Ultrasounds and 3 MRi all negative, one MRI to my back has shown degeneration disc on my lower back T5, since I saw the report I started feeling paIn to my back and pin and needles in my hands and arms as well. Im 47 m and used to be quite active and sporty bit I had to give up running, gym ect so I got quite depressed and anxious, doing yoga but certain pose make it worst such as pigeon and butterfly legs, acupunture was quite good for me and also mild cycling, I had to stop swimming too as I got shoting pain in my arms I feel very frustrated as I don't know whats wrong with me🤔
