What a long road

I want to share my stories for those who are feeling defeated. I myself felt defeated due to the long process of healing.

My fissure episode started in July of 2018 and I am now almost healed as of April 9th 2019.

What I learned was this process of healing takes a loooooooong time. Try to deal the best you can with the pain but if you stay on course it will go away.

Rule #1 find the right doctor.

It took me 1 month to be diagnosed correctly for my fissure. See a specialist. I would have saved tons of time and days of pain. My first specialist caused more issues by doing a cam probe..... My second specialist diagnosed me off of my symptoms and said "we will let you heal a bit before we check things out".

Rule # 2 diet

Eat smart and control your fiber intake. I was told to use Citricil daily, best if used in mornings to keep things flowing well. Never use it at night.

Rule # 3 pain

Do everything you can to keep the muscle spasms at bay. The bodies natural reaction to a fissure is to spasm the muscles around the fissure. Daily sitz baths are a must. In my case it was the evening. Stay clean in the pained area.

Rule # 4 wait....

It takes a long time to heal.

My first round was to try a creme prescribed by my doctor to relax the muscles around the fissure and promote blood flow for healing. My doctor wanted me to use the product for a few months with 600 MG of ibuprofin 3 times a day. It did help and made my life a bit more bearable. I was able to get ride of my tire seat :) Some people are treated with the cream. Not me.

Round two was botox shots. I received 4 botox shots and started to feel some relief within the first week. The botox shots do cause a new pain as I swear I felt where every injection was placed. The pain for me was up and down as things started to heal. The muscle spasms continued and this was the most painful part. I needed to retrain my muscles to relax. This was done by sitz baths , deep breathing ( stress is a major contributor to spasms), gentle stretching to help the pelvic floor, and at times an occasional muscle relaxer. Try not to depend on the muscle relaxers. It will inhibit your body from fixing the spasms on its own. Thru my entire process I maybe took a muscle relaxer 5 times. As aside note. After botox things will basically try to fall out of your body. If you feel any need to use a restroom. GO!!! :) It took 7 weeks after the procedure for me to feel a notable difference. The pain seemed to gradually and I mean very gradually begin to fade.

I am close to healed, I do not require any ibuprofin or pills to function now. I closely monitor my fiber and still use citricil daily per my doctors order.

I will be attending a holistic physical therapist to teach me to to manage stress and stretch properly. My hopes are to be 100% healed in the next month or so.

Hi. Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a positive and realistic post. I too am dealing with a chronic fissure, it will be a year next month. I am not yet healed, as the creams did not work for me and i do not want to go through the botox route simply because of a few instances where i have read about some peoples unfortunate results and im simply not willing to take the risk just because i have finally started to learn to cope and function with my pain so i am not prepared to take any risks. So i just really appreciate your positive post and wanted to thank you and i wish you the best of health!

Thank you. Sorry you are also going thru the pain. It sounds like you are on the right path too. Because you are dealing with your pain you are about there. My pain went away so gradual I barely noticed the healing process. Sure is a long process and it is nice to know we are not alone in the process. :) We are going to beat this :) I will continue to post my updates, I hope you do to.

Yes for sure please keep us updated throughout your recovery and I will as well. I think no one can relate or imagine or understand the pain and discomfort we have to endure unless they have had the misfortune to have a fissure. On the same note it makes me want to treat my body better so that it can heal because never in my life would have i imagined that i would have this kind of condition where i am in physical pain for the majority of the day for almost a year now. So thats why i truly appreciate your positive feedback and encouragement. Thank you again!
