I was diagnosed with sciatica and a slipped disc last year and given co codamol which didn;t help then tramadol which really helps but recently I've moved areas and the GP said tramadol is addictive so it's being removed. He wouldn't discuss whether tht was relevent to me individually. I asked what would be done now re other meds or investigating the back pain or maybe a scan regarding the slipped disc but his reply was that none of this is necessary because the pain will resolve itself once the tramadol ends. I really doubt he's right. I've halved my dose but I'm in pain. What I want is a scan and some pain meds until we know what's going on. It seems I can't change GP practice because they all have a one mile policy. I've wasted my time seeing two GPs there now. Do I have to see every GP there and if they all insist that the pain will magically disappear then what do I do?

New GP removed meds and won't give replacement or scan
Unbelievable. Keep persisting
Have they all told you the same thing?
i've only seen two so far and they both have. I have an appointment with another but it's not for two weeks. There are no more appointments online or for booking ahead from receptionists but every morning there are so few available unless you choose the very unpleasant one that i saw. He has quite a few spare appointments but i couldn't bear to see him again and don't think i'd get anywhere
Let's see what the next one says, if it's the same then maybe they are right.
You could find yourself a private doctor and of course he'll prescribe anything you want plus all the scans and refferals. Of course it will cost you loads o money..Alternatively you can get medication on Amazon but you have to be sure you dont pick a mickey mouse company. The sad truth is that lots of GPs and specialists just copy the notes from the previous consultation...ask your GPs advice for pain relief and if he cant offer anything request a referral to a specialist.
I read that if you see a private doctor, the nhs one (out of spite I imagine) won't accept their diagnoses so I'll have one more go with a different gp and if no luck I'll have to go to a&e which of course isn't fair on genuine emergencies but if it's the last option I'll have to do it
Just updating on the issue. I got to see a different GP today who has referred me for a scan and said the only treatment options are pain relief. Depending on the scan results I might be able to have an injection every three months and if not she's happy for me to stay on tramadol.
do a bit of research into this waccy baccy stuff with the 'trip' removed. i took it a couple of times to help me sleep.mine was in a hypodermic without the sharp and i was told to put a very small amount under my tongue.it just looked like caterpillar poo...i think the medication you can now get is tablets or syrup , and is legal.it may even be on your nhs...
