Morning,

Just wondering if you very knowledgeable people would know if AMA+ always meant PCB?

I also have anti thyroglobulin antibodies of 398.

My AMA is 1:640 and was discovered during a blood test for possible Lupus?

I just posted on Tuesday's Tip about this. Take a look at it if you can. Positive AMA (anything above 1:40) is considered a positive result. There is no need to repeat. You also need to you see what your liver enzymes are as an elevation in your Alk Phos results along with a positive AMA can be a PBC diagnosis. It is important to continue to repeat that liver labs panel every 3-6 months. With a + AMA, you should likely start taking Urso. Do you see a hematologist? It doesn't do any harm to take Urso while you continue to monitor even slightly elevated enzymes or normal ones but keeping mind you do have a positive AMA.

I know this can be confusing. Please reach out anytime with questions. Hope what I've said isn't more confusing for you.

Fab, thank you for your response.

I was tested for ANA for suspected Lupus, which was negative. My Dr said she was unsure why they tested me for AMA as it was not requested?

My M2-3E was only a weak positive. My liver bloods are ok apparently.

She has referred me back to my gastro ( had my gallbladder removed in Dec 23).

My referral was Oct 24, but average wait time where I am is 19 weeks and can be as long as 38 weeks .

Thanks again.

Having a 'weak' result for the AMA is still considered positive. I would strongly suggest you could at least start taking Urso in the meantime waiting for the appointment. It doesn't hurt and can keep those bile ducts open so the liver can function as it should. I would think your GI doc could give you that for now. Getting lab work for liver enzymes every 3-6 months would be very important as well just to keep an eye on those enzymes. Sorry you have such a long wait for that appointment.
