Different AMA results

Hello everybody, may be someone had similar results like me. My GGT and ALP hight elevated, ALT and AST just a bit above the level. Fibroscan, US, MRI are good. The only thing they found on mri is biliary sludge in my gallbladder.

3 month ago i was checked for AMA M2, and result was ( doubting), and advice from lab to do the test again after few month. After 6 weeks AMA M2 - was negative, after 6 weeks again AMA m2 - was negative again( different lab). But 2 days later i had more blood tests at the same lab, where AMA M2 was also included. So everything came negative, except AMA M2- slightly positive.

Any opinions, how it can be?

Hi Belgium22, I know it’s difficult when you don’t yet have a diagnosis, but you’re in the process, and you’re reaching out for support, so that’s excellent!

Do you know your AMA M2 number? Less than 1/20 (some labs say 1/40) is considered too low to be positive. It’s possible to have PBC without positive AMA, but perhaps not enough evidence points to this until your doctor investigates further. If it hasn’t been done, I suggest you ask for Immunoglobulins blood test because raised IgM is characteristic of PBC, while raised IgG and IgA indicate other possibilities.

I’m sure this is difficult if English is not your first language, but anyway well done, and very best wishes.

That's a good answer. Good explanation. The negative results may have been to low, and then maybe the result has increased snd now considered positive. Im curiuos what kind if numbers get for ama. When I was diagnosed (2 years ago), my ama was 1/320. 18 months later on recheck it was exsctly the same. I take 1000 mg of urso each dayq and all the other lft checks are now back in normal range.

I dont see there number of Ama m2. AMA <2 negative( reference 1-20), and Ama2 just one negative, other one low positive. Same lab, few days difference.

Mine did the same thing.... my biopsy shows NRH and other labs point to pbc.....but send out for pbc was negative but esp all phos was elevated.... started urso and all enzymes eventually went to normal values but do vary time to time.... but with such positive results from urso they said there is little doubt.... be calm and hope the meds work for you like they did for me 🙏🏻
