Weight Gain and Urso

I was wondering... Did any of you gain weight after starting on Urso? I feel like since I started Urso, my weight has been creeping up and I feel "puffy" and my clothes seem to be snugger then usual.

I noticed it most in my feet as shoes hurt because my feet had swollen. I was changed from generic urso to Usofaulk and that problem and others stopped . I have been on urso for 24 years.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the Usofaulk that you take? Do you get it from a compound pharmacy that makes it?

Ursofalk (spelt cprrectly!) is Dr. Falk Pharma uk ltd. It is available from chemists in the UK when it is named on prescription otherwise generic is given.

Thanks for the information on this. Sorry I misspelled it... I do know of some members from another support group who get their Urso from a compound pharmacy here in the US that uses no filler in its making.

Saying that Urso 'causes' some of us to gain weight is fairly common. I think we all have to weigh any weight gain against the positive that Urso does for us. I always try to eat healthy and keep doing some sort of regular exercise. I have been doing water aerobics at the local YMCA for the last several years. What a difference it has made in my overall mobility. I hope you can keep the weight in check by what you are doing now to combat the gain.

I have always remained the same weight since starting urso over four years ago. I get the ursofalk brand.

I gained weight but put it down underactive thyroid and the menopause. I suspect that even if I ask for Ursofalk I’d never be able to clearly identify the cause. Suspect it may be my lifestyle choices - anyone forcake!?! 😆

I gained weight and I’m on Ursofalk. I am at present battling to lose weight. Sadly the weight seems to be winning the fight.

I had lost over 35 pounds in a slow healthy way just before diagnosis and have regained 12 since starting urso. Not sure if it's the drug or my behavior. Would love to blame urso but am addressing it through returning to intermittent fasting, more exercise, and better food choices. We'll see

Hi ToddybooYes I have definitely gained a bit of weight on Urso and I work out most days of the week! Also if I don't get Ursofalk I get very bloated and queasy with the other brands so I have to request that one! I've been on it now for 2 years.

The other brands make me feel queasy too - maybe the fillers?

When I was first diagnosed with PBC shortly after confirming my suspicions of diabetes type 2, which runs in my family, I fell victim to Google and was searching for anything that could prolong my “5 year prognosis.” I found some diet guidelines from a nutritionist associated with American Liver Foundation and really got my act together along with starting Urso and more exercise. I lost 60 pounds over an 8 month period. I’ve gained 10 back, but I attribute that more to taking my foot off the gas with my diet and regular exercise . I haven’t been as mindful, and I need to get back to that. So for me I think it’s more about behaviors than Urso, but I’m sure everyone reacts differently.
