Have you changed your diet , I was advised to eat a low fat diet and small amounts six times a day and lost about 2stone and feel a lot better for it x

Hi kitty sue, I'm still eating my normal diet, I have 2 meals a day, one of those is breakfast, which is normally cereal, my other meal is meat and vegetables, and it's rare i eat snacks, maybe I should try your diet, maybe increase my energy, thanks for the advice x

Have been on Ursofalk about 2years and have just a little weight gain but am also on steroids which I think is bad for weight.

I found low fat high protein bars with no added sugar were really good. They are not cheap but are good for you and stop the hunger pangs.I Send for them online and if you buy in larger amounts they are not so expensive.

Eating little and often and avoiding sugar and fat if poss seems to be the best way.Lots of fruit and veg too!I expect lots of exercise too is good but I find that difficult due to the dire dailly fatigue.

Good luck and hope the diet helps. C x

Hello Sonia40.

Seems from what I have read on here and also about PBC taking urso can cause a bit of weight gain or for others they lose weight.

I've not gained any weight taking urso. I am actually a few pounds lighter now than I was in Dec 2010 at diagnose. I think for me it is due to the fact that I itch later at night, some nights I find I can't return to sleep if I wake and then the itch starts again before I nod back off so I spend a lot of time fidgeting and using energy.

Although it is said that you can have what you want to eat still with PBC I do think fat is something that is better taken in less quantity given bile acts like a detergent on fats.

I find myself that I eat better earlier in the day and then taper off by the evening meal. I sometimes struggle to eat the evening meal so only have a small portion. I find that if I eat anything later at night I am stuck with the itch a bit longer the following morning so tend to abstain after my evening meal, find it works better for me.

I think with PBC too, eating quality is far better than quality.

Are you suffering from fatigue that is common to PBC? I haven't suffered from this since around mid-2011 now so have no problem there. I do find I feel tired later in the day if I had restless night but it's not fatigue now. If you are suffering from fatigue then it could be a case that you aren't moving about as much as you used to and that could perhaps contribute to a bit of weight gain.
