Urso & weight gain

Morning everyone, not been on here for a while as I have been enjoying my new life in the sun. Awaiting results of my first blood tests in spain. Will keep you posted re. results. My question is, does urso cause weight gain? My stomach is getting bigger. Could it just be fluid retention or the urso? I have been taking it for six months now. My weight hasn't increased so not sure why my stomach has! Has anyone had the same problem?

Hi Spanishnan, sorry ai can't be of help but am going to follow this thread as I have a similar problem! I was diagnosed in Feb 2019 and started taking Urso straight away (3 x 250mg a day). My stomach has been slowly but surely increasing in size .... not sure how to stop it!!

Hello Spanishnan I have been on Urso now for 7 months and am noticing the same thing. Wonder if it is a side effect.

Spanishnan - I'm answering as fast as I can though I overslept today because I had the heating on yesterday!!!

Patients report weight gain and weight loss with urso. Some find it constipating, others get dire rear! Some have bloating. I can't see your stomach and if I did, I'm not a doctor so couldn't say what is causing it to get bigger. But you do ask could it be fluid retention and if I asked myself that question I would have to see my doctor and have it checked out.

I'd say it was entirely possible to put on weight fairly soon after arriving to live in the sun. Your itching has stopped. Maybe you have started to absorb more from the food that you eat than you did previously. Be guided by how you feel.

It's warmer here today. And luscious green after the heavy rains yesterday!

Hi Spanishnan l have the same problem l have been on URSO since Feb 2018 and my stomach is really bloated l hate it l was always a 8 1/2 stone and never ever shifted from that I’m now 9 1/2 stone l eat healthily and never junk. I just can’t shift it without starving myself l look like I’m pregnant. I don’t think it’s water retention in my case as it’s not solid. It depresses me so much. Lucky you living in beautiful Spain I’m going in December for 6 months xx

I had an identical issue. I’ve been on Urso for over a year now. When I first started out, I looked pregnant. It would fluctuate some, but always there. No matter what I did it was there. I asked the specialist & she said Urso wouldn’t cause it. I don’t buy it. Never had the issue until I started Urso. Well, low & behold, it has pretty much disappeared. A couple months ago I noticed it greatly reduced. My weight has gone back to normal healthy weight too. So not sure what the deal is. I do think Urso (& maybe the disease) causes the abdomen to extend. I’m due to have bloodwork looked at, so I’ll see if the decrease in abdomen size means good numbers!

Take care😊

My enemy was bread, for speed it was a slice of toast with breakfast and sandwiches for lunch and although busy I had a sedantary job sitting on my bottom all day and leaning forward and to tired by the time I got home for any exercise but I also put on a lot of weight. I believe I read somewhere that liver disease may cause the tummy to look bloated but I cannot remember where or cite the source, perhaps someone in the group will know. I am guessing you will be drinking a lot more water as I suspect it is hot where you are just now so it may be fluid retention - is the tummy less bloated in the morning? It may be worth asking the doctor when you have a consultation for the blood tests results, do try to get a copy, I think you can get them in Europe more easily than here.

Glad to read you are enjoying your new life.
