From what I understand Tylenol (paracetamol) is okay to take but have you investigated the cause of your chronic lower back pain? There are quite a few causes for lower back pain/hip such as osteopenia/osteoporosis, my lower back pain improved after I had antibiotics for a UTI which had given me no real symptoms. Gentle exercise may be helpful but under guidance from a physiotherapist.

hope you get it sorted, back pain can make us feel very low.

I’ve not heard of this medication so wouldn’t like to say if ok, I take paracetamol to help with pain not sure what other ingredient tyelenol has. If your back/hip has been hurting for a while have you spoken to doctor as to why it’s hurting?

I limit Tylenol (to prevent further liver damage) as well as NSAIDs (they are harmful to bone density - I have osteoporosis from PBC). NSAIDs are not as dangerous for your liver (they are metabolized through your kidneys) and are inherently safer unless you have other contraindicating conditions.

My Mayo Clinic liver specialist said Tylenol, but not over 1000 ml a day.

I also have back/ hip pain.

4% lidocaine spray ( aspercreme) and patches also help.

NSAID drugs damage your small intestines and cause leaky gut syndrome, which leads to inflammation and autoimmune responses. Tylenol and paracetamol can cause liver damage. My personal rule is to never take these things.

You might want to try Voltarin. It’s a topical version of ibuprofen, and since it’s absorbed through the skin it’s not processed through your liver. I used it for a knee injury and it was very effective.

I don’t find it works for me.

I was on a webinar on PBC with a Canadian doctor not too long ago. He said years ago they did not want PBC patients taking Tylenol but that has since changed, and as long as we are not stacking and taking too much it’s actually better than Advil. My hepatologist agrees. I can’t do Advil or Voltaran anyway as NSAIDs of any type give me gastritis. So I use Tylenol and THC/PBC cream which I can buy easily in California. hepatologist suggested. However I also went to my ortho guy, I had an issue with L4 and ended up with a steroid injection there. That was 3 years ago and haven’t had any trouble with my lower back since then. Good luck.

That is awesome, Cee Cee! I am happy to hear about the Tylenol, and actually, do pop a THC gummy now and then and it definitely helps with pain. I also have the cream, but couldn’t bring it with me. Glad to hear about your back….i am hoping that maybe mine has something to do with just starting Ursodiol a month ago….i am new to all of this…never ever had medication for anything until now.
