Osteoporosis treatment

I have recently been diagnosed with PBC and am taking 1000mg ursodeoxycholic acid daily. I just had a routine bone density done and it resulted that I have osteopenia in my hips and osteoporosis in my spine. Doctor prescribed 2 Osteocare daily plus Bisphosphonate Acid once I have a bill of good dental health from the dentist.

Anyone else on these meds?

Thanking you in advance 😊

Hi there

I was diagnosed earlier this year with PBC and I’m also on 1000 mg of Urso Acid a day. But I was diagnosed with osteopenia first, 4 years ago after a series of small fractures. But I was in my late 40s then so I was offered an injection called Denosumab twice yearly that helps strengthen your bones, and vitamin D supplements. My Dexa Bone Density scans are repeated every 18 months and my bone density mass has increased significantly. I’ve had no breaks or fractures since. It’s been a massive success for me and I don’t even think about it anymore. I do specific blood tests two weeks before the injection to check levels and the injection is quick and painless, no side effects. Good luck going forward.

I have recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I take Alendronic Acid once a week and have Evacal D3 chewable tablets twice a day.

I am an 84-year-old male diagnosed three years ago with stage 3 PBC. I began taking 500 MG Ursodiol twice daily and my condition has stabilized. I am physically active (15 biking miles most weekdays and three times to the gym for arm work, stretching, etc.). I also have osteoporosis in the femur neck and osteophenia in the general hip area. Once weekly I take Alendrenate Phosphate (also known as "Fosomax"). PBC robs the body of calcium in a way different from other bone losses.

It sounds as if you are on the right track. Stick with it and best wishes.

Hi, I had been using Urso but have recently changed to obet. With the urso I experienced hair loss and weight gain, I had no other side affects.

Hi can I ask with the change has it helped with hair loss? My hair is getting so thin and I think it’s the urso!

I definitely think it was the Urso.

I’m now taking a hair growth supplement called Viviscal, it can be bought at Boots but I get it online at half the price.. my hairdresser has noticed regrowth so I’m happy 😊

I've been diagnosed with osteopenia 15 years before PBC and ursodiol. Ursodiol didn't make any effect on my bones, but, when I lost weight (while already on ursodiol), the bone density test showed osteoporosis in the spine. I gained some of the weight back since then and my bone numbers became better. I am only taking calcium supplements, vit K and D3. Not taking any meds.

Hi Dora. I've been diagnosed with PBC for 12 years now. I am 73. Was diagnosed with osteoporosis 2 years ago. I have a great deal of trouble with Rx drugs. Doc got me started on a vitamin supplement called Ultimate Bone Support. I get it thru Amazon. After 1 year on it, my bone density had increased by 5%.

Hi. I am on 1500mg of Ursodeoxycholic Acid per day and have been for many years. I think I was diagnosed in 2007. I have never had any problems or side affects from taking it. I have regular bone density scans and at my last my results were that my levels were those to be expected from a post menopausal woman of my age. Take care Heather
