Hypertrophy of segment 1 of the liver.

Hello,

I have been diagnosted with PBC in 2018 and I am treated with ursodiol 500mg 3 x a day.

10 days ago I had a CT scan with injection for a suspected acuite acute diverticulitis and tested positive. I got my hand on the report that also says ; hypertrophy of segment 1 of the liver.

I want to know if this should be a concerne. Thischas never appeared before on previous CT scans for the same problem (acute diverticulitis).

Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thank you,

Ancolie

When is your follow up with your liver doctor? Dont fret about it until you discuss with him/her. Otherwise, you will drive yourself nuts. If in US, send him/her a portal message if that is how your doctor likes to communicate with you in between appointments.

Hypertrophy of segment 1 of liver = enlargement in that part of the liver.

Hypertrophy is, by definition, the enlargement of an organ or tissue from the increase in size of its cells.

The liver is segmented into 8 segments when it is studied by medical professionals.

Link below has a picture depicting the liver and the segments.

Thanks again,

I got a phone call from the hospital Friday . I will have a upper endoscopy done October 13. I think they will be looking for portale hypertension. I joined a fun little video on what is portale hypertension 😉.

Good luck; try not to worry too much. The doctors will help you.

I don’t like that pbc expert GIs don’t go over report with you to explain. They get their 900 per 5 minute office visit, prescribe Ursodoil and move on to the next patient. How does anyone find a good expert and dietitian?

Maybe your pcp or regular GI can recommend someone for the pbc and a dietian. Ancolie is in Canada so the healthcare system is more socialized than US and might have limited access/time per patient. I got my hepatologist via my GI. Fortunately it was a great recommendation since my appointments are never rushed and he is always available to answer questions via the patient portal.

PCPs in the US are another story; I struggle to find a good one. I had a good pcp but he went concierge and it is just too pricey. I am still looking...
