Hi anyone had a reaction to iron tablets?
I have not needed iron tablets but the vitamin tablets I buy are without iron. Sorry I cannot remember why I specifically buy these without iron but a long time ago I read or was told that it was a better product for those with liver problems. I much prefer to be able to site references but in this case my memory fails me. Perhaps your GP can help if you have had a reaction or a chat with the pharmacist.
Not sure I can be any help with regards to iron and PBC, however some years before I was diagnosed I had a problem with iron. Not your obvious side effects.
I had been taking supplements for for a few months after feeling a bit sluggish and tired thought they’d be a pick me up. I can’t remember why but, around that time I’d been to the GP about something and a blood test came back that I’d got an abnormal result on the test.
However, it was not the iron anemia you would expect but, the body holding too much iron and not using it.
I was sent to see a liver doctor who checked for hemochromatosis among other things thankfully it all came back okay.
I was told at that time to never take iron tablets unless prescribed and under the guidance of a doctor. ( I wonder sometimes if that was not the start of my PBC , but the LFT’s were okay so no indication to suggest it then)
If you suspect your getting any reaction or side effect speak with your GP to get it checked out.
