Urso and Iron

Hi everyone. I take 500mg urso and a couple of iron tablets before I go to bed at night but the next day I suffer from terrible diarrhoea and stomach pain straight after breakfast. This has gone on for about 3 years and although I've mentioned it to gp nothing has been done or suggested.

This problem seems to have worsened and as a result I've had stopped taking the tablets on a few nights to see what happens. Funnily enough when I've stopped the tablets I've not had the problem so perhaps there is a connection.

I appreciate I can't just stop this medication but wondered if anyone else has the same issue and if so what you've done about it.

Thanks so much.

Hi,

Are you low in iron?? Too much iron can cause those stomach issues your describing. I'd continue my URSO and try to EAT enough natural iron. Sort of a process of elimination. Maybe stopping the iron will make a difference. However, if your doctor has you taking iron supplements, please check with her/him first.

URSO can also cause diarrhea and tummy issues.... so, it maybe the two together as you said. But, you gotta take your URSO so could be maybe find another time to take the iron. Mess around with those combinations (with approval of your doctor) and hopefully you will get some results.

Thanks very much! Yes very low on iron so can't just stop taking it. I'm going to try iron at night and urso in day just to see if it helps!

Make sure you take the iron with food. It can be hard on the tummy. ❤👍

Following on from ktltels suggestion. Make sure you take your urso with or just after food as well.

try taking iron am then if you get a reaction in the day... you will know that its iron... if so go back to doc and ask for alternative. cazer

Hi I am on a lower dose of Urso but I take one 50 mg three times a day with food. Initially I had side effects but it has lessened over the years. Hope this helps. Patty

Hi Han73,

I get Ferinjet, iron drip for my iron problems. Works really well, only sad my iron has to drop before I get the treatment. But apparently it is dangerous to have too much iron too, so for years now I get Ferinjet when my iron is low.

Hope your doctors can provide better support and treatment in this area. Being low on iron is tough.

J
