Difficulty swallowing tablets

I’m finding it really hard to keep down the urso tablets. I take them with lots of water but they seem to be getting stuck and once the plastic coating is dissolved, the powder is coming back up and out of my mouth. Anyone have any suggestions to stop this?

Hi Elaineqs...the urso tablets stick with me as well I just eat a banana or a piece of bread or rich tea biscuit afterwards with a large glug of water to rinse it down. It usually helps. But yes I agree they could be made smaller. I am not sure but I think I read somewhere that you can get urso in liquid form..I will research this for myself as well...

Hi I went to see consultant on 17th and besides a very thorough appointment he gave me ursofalk liquid suspension. I have been taking it for a week now and it's really not too bad tastes lemony but has bitter after taste which settled down if you have a sip of milk or something to nibble on , apples work well. X

I just found this it may be a solution but we need to look a bit further. I know I am going to ask for this on 17th when I get to see consultant.

I’m going to ask my doctor at my next appointment for this. Sounds like it’s my best option. Oh the joys of this. It just keeps on giving.

Thanks girls. I really appreciate you getting back to me as I’m only new to all this. I’ve tried taking them at the one time, but it’s worse then so I’m back to taking them at different times. I

I too have some difficulty with swallowing tablets. Thanks to your post, I asked my liver MD to prescribe my URSO in capsule form. She wasn’t aware of that option. She indeed was able to get them for me.

Thanks again Ninjagirl

Thanks Ballymahon,

I believe you might be in my neck of the woods in Ireland.

One of the conditions I have associated with pbc is sicca/ Sjögren’s syndrome is affecting my saliva production and I have chronic dry mouth and constant sinus infections, resulting in lots of mucus, so the tablets are getting stuck. Sorry for the gory details.

I have taken Allie27’s suggestions on eating something after and that seems to work thankfully.

Hope you are doing well. What hospital are you attending treatment?

I don’t know but I feel better knowing I’m not alone in this battle. It’s good to share our problems, and the suggestions have been great. I hope you are feeling well and not too sick with this

This happens to me!!! I hate taking the tablets, I take them all together last thing at night and very often gag and bring up my fourth one!!!

God Debbie that sound gross and I totally get you, as I only have three to take and now have to take them separately to keep them down. Taking food after them to push them down is working. You should try it. Let’s battle on and hope things don’t get much worse😉

Yeah, I’ve had a few change direction on the way down. Very painful 😝. I believe you are from Ireland. I’m just outside of Dublin. What part of Australia are you in? How long have you been there?

Hi Elaineqs, yes I am Irish, I'm from Waterford, but prior to moving to OZ 7 yrs ago I lived in Kildare. I'm in South Australia.....we moved when there was an exodus in 2011, love it here, still love Ireland and miss family but love our lives here, no regrets thankfully...

Ladies just have something strong tasting to immediately swallow.... and hold ur breath while swallowing as this defo helps. It’s not bad so I think you’ll be ok.

I always take my tablets (2x500mg) with my main meal at night so the food helps to push them down!
