For those of you who are not using our website or facebook page, here is a link to the latest statement from our Medical Advisory Board.

Please note, people with PBC tend not to have a “compromised” immune system, unless there are other things at play. Those with cirrhosis, however, are considered “immuno-compromised”.

As someone with cirrhosis, you would be considered to be “immuno-compromised” and hence at more risk.

The good news is Italian data is saying that immuno-compromised patients tend not to get the virus so bad.

It is almost that a weakened immune response stops the spread within the lungs.

Personally, I would be using that info to reassure myself but would still be following Gov guidelines and still self-isolating.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for the immune system information, I was thinking about that a lot. I don’t really know my stage so I’am being careful anyway. Stay safe,

Hi sorry I may sound stupid but worried are we saying then that I’m at no more of a risk than anyone else if I have pbc ? As I work in a private day nursery and need to work as need it left open for children with key worker parents ?

There is not a simple answer but I shall try. The Gov guidance is best, for all different countries offer slightly different advice.

Someone with PBC is not at more risk of contracting COVID-19. However, the Govt has said anyone with a “chronic liver condition, such as hepatitis” should be doing a certain thing. Technically, this would include people with PBC.
