Hi Purdy2017

Cant comment on whither you have celiac or not. I was told at diagnosis it is common for pbc to have celiac. In saying that i dont have issue with coffee .

Take care

Hi there, I get tummy problems all the time been tested for ceiliac with bloods and then a colonoscopy but was clear seems it’s probably just ibs. I think personally it’s prob all to do with having pbc. Can’t pin it down to certain foods I eat.

Firstly I would say any new or unexplained symptoms should be looked at by your doctors, tummy issues could be so many things. Celiac is another autoimmune disease, it may be useful to get tested. I was tested routinely when I developed similar symptoms however:

Celiac is from the gluten in wheat, rye and barley, or any products with it added like a lot of sauces even some brands of crisps and chocolate contain it. Never heard of it being added to coffee, though it could be the coffee for other reasons.

However do you have very milky coffee it could be the milk. I’ve become lactose intolerant and if I have more than just a little, I get those type of symptoms, but best to speak to your doctors before eliminating anything from your diet. I did a long elimination FODMAP diet with a dietitian before finding out what the cause was. Hope everything goes well.

Hummm...just wondering if there might be cream in that coffee? I use cream in mine....bad vice, but nut milk alternatives just don't do it for me. Anyway, sometimes the combination of coffee with the cream causes tummy problems for me. Just thinking there may be a correlation between dairy and your tummy...Be well

I had a lot of stomach and intestine problems early on and tried various ways of eating, including the Anthony Williams raw food diets. After trialling various things the most successful I found for me was an autoimmune protocol diet which eliminated all gluten, dairy, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, additives, nuts, most spices, nightshade vegetables. I did this for 3 months and have now added in nuts, occasional nighshades, decaff coffee. I am not going to add in gluten or dairy for a while longer. This is working for me. Your journey will be different. I hope that your tummy feels better soon. With best wishes.
