I’ve just been told it’s not a good idea to fast twice a week (500) cal by my consultant. Seriously every time I see her , I come out depressed , she gives me no hope . I like fasting and I like to be given a little hope !!!!

Well done for asking her and not just going ahead with it! If you need to lose weight did she give you another suggestion about doing so safely? If you don't need to lose weight, could you plan yourself a different lovely little treat every week instead that will make you happy? best wishes

No I’ve been doing it a while , I feel good after it. Just cos there isn’t scientific evidence about it doesn’t mean it’s not a good thing to do

Ok. I can feel very uncomfortable when I think to do/not do something my doctor reccomends. They are bound by 'best practice' based on scientific evidence and we are bound to do the best we can for ouselves? At least we can tell them when we plan to do 'otherwise' so they have all the known facts about how our body is working? So they can do their best within their limits?

I sympathise - I'd like to have regular days when I eat far less but for me it doesn't work and makes more probs than it solves! My body wants consistency above all else and that's difficult for me as a naturally disorganised person!

Intermittent fasting has a lot of support in the literature. Ask about that? You stop eating food at 5pm and start back up at 12 noon.

Today I feel so down because of her comments plus she always tells me that I’ll never get rid of it !!

I am aware. But does she have to keep telling me ?

Frustrating. Meet her 1/2 way with intermittent fasting, don’t eat much meat, milk or additives. Try yoga daily, it works if you work it. Use peppermint oil, smell it instead of eating candy, white bread or eclairs, etc

Here's how I choose to see this condition (I refuse to call it a "disease"). My body can be triggered by toxins, an unhealthy lifestyle, stress, etc. to mangle its own bile ducts. This is the known truth about autoimmunity. We have a gene to give us the tendency but it has to be triggered and can manifest in a myriad of different ways. The damage that is already done is there, but Urso helps the bile move and by living well I can reduce autoimmune triggers and thrive. Fuck "living a normal life." I WILL live an amazing life!

I actively work to reduce stress and to do things that make me feel good. Exercise, eating well, meditation, hot baths, yoga, being outdoors, connecting with people and seeing beauty in the world all make me feel good physically and emotionally, so I make a point of doing those things.

I have no room for people who will make me feel limited. I refuse to see myself as "sick," "ill," or "suffering." We all have an inner badass who can choose to live the best life we can envision, and we choose how to perceive our reality, positive or negative. So, this condition may not go away, but neither will a big nose or baldness or any other characteristic we can't control.

If occasional low calorie days (filled with nourishment of some sort) are your groove, and they make you feel good, why not do it? Your body is telling you something when it feels good. Does your doctor have a peer reviewed study showing that occasional "fasting" harms your liver? Next time you might ask and see what she says.

I love what you say - " I will live an amazing life" despite PBC. Strongly said and felt. I've been battling with that notion since being partially diagnosed, that there is some diminishing because of PBC, to the quality of my life. I will live life fully, as I choose to, not matter what the progressing of PBC for me is!

I love your post! I don't agree or disagree on whether to call it a "disease". Doesn't matter to me, but I love your attitude and everything you said about living life. Although our doctors are our advisors, I haven't found one yet that will recommend anything that is not backed by research and research is limited in a lot of areas. I think we just have to use common sense and not do something crazy. Making yourself happy is so important😊💕

Sounds like it's time to find another consultant. I'm sure there are as many opinions on this as there are practitioners. Some are deep in the allopathic box, some are not. How could such a small fast cause you harm? I've done way more than that and I'm still on the planet. I like fasting and cleansing too. It gives my body a break and everything seems to calm down. As far as their rude comment on how this will never go away? Again, time to find a doctor with a better level of compassion. Be well

I’m so pissed off with her. She’s hardly a picture of health herself and her bedside manner is crap 💩! I’m saying that I’m looking at my diet etc fasting to aid myself She shakes her head at me How do I go about finding another consultant without annoying anyone ( I need a scan every 6 months) then I have to see her. I’m in the uk ? Xx. I’m glad you’ve written because the only other reply was someone who always thinks the consultant is right .( they are not ) and how I should listen to their every word . I need someone who can help me treat the cause rather than the flaming symptom !! Rant over. So cross and really really sad and upset xxx Thankyou

I'm not familiar with how it works in the UK. Are you assigned someone? Maybe get the names of some Gastro. or Hepatology docs and Google to read reviews. You can always call the doctors and ask questions. I'm really sorry to hear you are going through this. I have had to fire doctor's over the years because they were not a fit for me. Is this doctor a specialist? Take care

Oh gosh , I wonder if we have the same Consultant , she sounds the same as mine ( London hospital ? ) Mine told me that losing weight and walking at least 10000 steps a day would make no difference to my Fibro scan results and that I was in the cirrhosis range .......well my reading went from 13.5 to 9.1 after losing 2 stone . I hate seeing her but my only choice is seeing her or her registrar who usually asks if I've stopped drinking !!!!!

Exactly. Mainly veg during the day then a proper tea ( all weighed etc )

My endocrinologist actually suggested intermittent fasting to me; refrain from food after a certain time during day. Said you can do the 12 hour fast; if you eat at 8 am, don't eat after 8 pm other than plain tea or water. Every doctor will have a different opinion.

My liver doc is one of the best in the country(Canada) .He says the disease has NOTHING f

to do with diet ,so why would fasting be a bad thing? If anything it should be a rest for your liver.
