Hi Donna. I've had one. I think you'll find that, like me, most people on here who have had one will tell you they were all dreading it but it wasn't that bad at all. So try not to worry. It will genuinely be over before you know it. Make sure & go to the loo beforehand because you have to lie still afterwards for a long time. I also asked for "conscious sedation". This is where you are awake & can follow instructions (such as breathing in & holding your breath) but you remember little or nothing afterwards. It really was great. But that's down to personal choice & your doctor/hospital agreeing to give it. So again, do your best not to fret & let us know how you get on. Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀

donnathompson Goodday. I had liver biopsy in 2009, and was not a bad experience, but had to go after the biopsy, (about 6 days,) for E.R.C.P to confirm the diagnose. So I should not be worried, it is a simple procedure, but of course we all stressat the thought of biopsies. Wish you the best

I actually enjoyed the experience- great dr and fun nurses. I had to lay down for about 4 hours but I could move and didn't have to lay on my side. I do wish I had taken the day after off. I was very sore that night and some the next day. It hurt to laugh. I had a mild sedative but was aware the whole time- I just didn't care!!! Good luck!🍀👍🏻

Sweetie I understand your concern but getting your teeth cleaned is worse. I had no sedation. Novocain on the skin small pin prick. Three different spots. The gas in the left shoulder was a bit daunting. Do NOT look at the needle. It's large like the nova some needle in the dentist or an amniocentesis if you had one. Doesn't hurt at all. Worrying no is the worst part Good luck let us know how it goes. And then you can tell the next person not to worry

Hi Donna, I had one done two weeks ago .

I found it ok the doc gave me a local anaesthetic and to be honest all I felt after that was a bit of pressure.

He kept me for a couple of hours after lying on my right side in case of a bleed.

Took it easy for the next day and that was it .

Hope that helps you.

All the best x

I can only agree with the other comments. I had one two years ago, local anaesthetic and had to lie still for an hour or so. Hardest part is that I had sore shoulder after for a few days. Please don't worry it will be over before you know it. Good, luck👍

Donnathompson..... Hello, mine is Thursday too but they are putting me out as I'm having a ERCP at the same time. They found a 1cm mass in my main bile duct. I'm so scared and anxious. Prayers for you and me. ❤

How did they discover 1 c mass? What procedure?

Ktltel profile image

They did an MRI of that area and saw something . But I'm in hospital since yesterday. Had ERCP. Cleaned out main bile duct... No cancer, put a stent in. Took biopsy. Get results in a few days. But I was in so much pain... Guess from the doctor being in there, kicked me into pancreatitis. So now I'm worried I could be at a more advanced PBC stage. More sit and wait.

Hope all went okay, got to say it wasn't to bed but don't want to repeat it any time soon. Mine is to find out what stage I'm at as I've just been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis as well as the p b c.

What a pair we are.💟💟

Hi Donnathompson, I'm still in hospital. Gonna keep me one more day. My results from biopsy of liver comes back next week. But I feel a little better. That ERCP is no picnic. You are put out but, if the doctor even touches the pancreas...... Wow... The pain. I'm a little worried about my stage..... 😔

i did - i psyched myself right out and almost fainted i was so worked up - but it really wasn't that bad. it was kind of "that's it?" when he said he was all done. :) you'll do great!

Easy. It sounds scary because you go to a hospital. I was there for 1/2 the day.

Hi, it's fine please don't worry about it. You will be given a local anaesthetic then they insert a needle which takes a slither of your liver it's minuscule. It's over and done with in minutes. You have to lye flat for an amount of time. I was petrified but felt silly afterwards.

Hope this helps you.

I asked if my treatment would change if I had a biopsy and they said no. I chose not to have the biopsy.

I would rather have a biopsy than my teeth cleaned lol. The needle is long so don't look. It's over quickly no pain. But terrible gas pains in left shoulder for about an hour bare able but surprising
