Algae Cal for bone density

I have been diagnosed with osteopenia and after a couple of months of high dose vitamin D3 (it had been very low) I was put on Calceos. My sister has done some research for me and suggests that Algae Cal may be more beneficial. Has anyone tried this and improved their bone density with it?

Good Morning...hope this day finds you well and happy. I have never taken the brand AlgaeCal, but I am on a calcium supplement that I am very pleased with. I do not have a parathyroid as mine was surgically removed with my thyroid due to cancer some 6 years ago. The brand I find to be the best, most complete product is by Rainbow Light. They make a Calcium/Magnesium ,D3 that is a plant based product in perfect proportion to one another. They come in a 500 mg. of calcium dosage because that is a what our bodies can process at one time. Unfortunately, because of my personal issue, I have to take 6 daily spread throughout the day. They are readily available everywhere and relatively inexpensive. I find the website IHERB to have the lowest prices. Best of luck in your research...be well

I was diagnosed with BPC in January 2018, after blacking out, falling fracturing 3 ribs. They admitted me Because my liver levels were extremely high I was given 1000 mg of Methandrosteolone every 6 hours. Since then I have had 5 compression fractures. I'm currently waiting for a prescription of forteo, my insurance company denied me this medication and we are appealing it. I will have to give myself a shot a day for 2 years. The pain that comes with a compression fracture is unbelievable!!

Hi Clvird, I too went though a long process to find out about PBC which was diagnosed after many years and more recently with the Low Vitamin D then Osteopenia and quickly osteoporosis. After a long long time taking a prescription of strong vitamin D 50,000u weekly and no results I took matters into my own hands. I have now after only several months taking a 5000u daily of vitamin d sublingual (one drop under tongue) Plus using my own homemade magnesium oil spray (or purchase a good magnesium oil spray at a local health food store ) ( NOT Epsom Salt) Magnesium chloride spray on bottoms of feet, legs for bad thigh cramping but read it would help boost Vitamin d levels because most of us are low on magnesium (lacking in our soil now) which is a must for absorption of vitamin D but many other things. IT WORKED and within a very short few months finally vitamin d is normal, My thigh cramps are gone, I sleep better and all my blood work is perfect. I am shocked it worked so fast. Good I have been on Urso 500 2x daily since diagnosis and my blood work is great, my gastro doctor explained the difference to me about PBC and how most liver disease is in the liver cells where this is in the bile ducts etc. He was so happy to see all my blood work be so good and my vitamin d up all the way said I can now see him again in a year. That is great because 3mo and 6 months are a pain. So hang in there! (ps magnesium oil spray might tingle at first it will go away quickly you will get used to it and now mine rarely tingles at all. I sleep better at night too! Heard it helps restless legs too.

Sounds like things are going great for you👍. I agree 3 & 6 month labs are a pain but are you comfortable with a yearly lab? I probably would not be, considering how quickly our labs can change. Just curious how you feel about that. 🦋

Many thanks for all the information. The magnesium chloride spray sounds useful and worth a try.

I have been using magnesium spray for a few weeks now - feeling good so far. I wait for my next blood test (which will also check vitamin D3 levels) to see if it has had an impact. The bonus is, that it is also a mood enhancer...

I recommended it to my sister who had very painful hands and she says it works very well for her. She bought the magnesium gel and now uses it daily.

Thanks for the tip!
