My doctor had just started me on fenofibrate 48 mg..... is anyone else taking this? The brochure in the meds said to be careful and make sure your doctor knows about kidney disease, pbc etc....concerned 😔

Hi Pamela

My consultant put me on Urso & fenofibrate as my bloods were not improving on Urso alone. He then swapped me to bezafibrate in April and since then my bloods are slowly improving.

My kidneys are fine but I am aware that long term use carries a risk.

I will be discussing this at my next appointment in January.

Are you taking Urso too?

Yes Jane and the pamphlet they gave me mentioned pbc and caution...... any side effects at all? I can’t take a statin because of joint pain

Also my bloods are doing good on urso but I have to drink no less than 5 bottles a day of water and 1 hour daily on treadmill or they start to climb again

My Cleveland Clinic Dr. took me off fenofibrate because I started back on statins and also said with PBC it was best to avoid medications that could cause liver issues.

I see you were diagnosed in Jne 2017.

Standard practice (when treating PBC alone) would be Urso for 12 months and monitor biochemistry results.

My Q is why are you given fenofibrate also? Is there a second underlying condition?

My lipid panel was high and I can’t tolerate statins due to joint pain
