Great news. Ultrasound is normal, liver looks normal. so no damage as of yet! go to the doctor tomorrow. Hopefully he will refer me to GI doctor. Bloods were just drawn yesterday, so probably no results on that yet.

All my ultrasounds were perfect until I had a cholangiogram and it showed the typical signs of beading. Have you had a cholangiogram?

Isnt beading a symptom of psc? My ama is pretty high not typical of psc so not sure they would do a cholanangiogram

Hello NotorGP.

I too had a normal looking ultrasound scan back in 2010, besides the liver other organs looked normal also.

A few months later when I saw the hospital consultant, the GGT blood was saying that my liver was a bit inflamed but that was all. (The GGT drastically improved within 6 months of starting urso Dec 2010.)

Due to a programme I saw 2 months prior to my diagnose PBC, I am convinced that an ultrasound can tell a pretty good picture of the liver (programme featured an alcoholic man in his 40s who was said live on air to have cirrhosis, the other man 30 something, he was quite overweight and shown to have a fatty liver). I also believe the along with the blood work it is quite possible to know how things are going.

Hi there

Ultrasound is used to rule out other causes. It is used to check the livers bile ducts to see if there is blockage caused by growths or tumours. If there are no blockages and the result is normal then that supports a diagnosis of PBC.

Yes i know. I am excited because i was concerned there was damage due to docs not taking my high alp seriously. Glad that isnt the case so far
