Help. I'm 37 yrs old and 22 weeks preggo. I'm having severe itching due to slightly elevated bile salts and now I've been sick with nasty cold for eleven days. I'm almost certain I have a sinus infection. I'm allergic to sulfa and pennecillan. I've always taken a zpack for sinus infections and they take care of it, but now I don't know what to do and I'm upset, scared and miserable. My GP is on vacation. Please advise.

Hi Grace8888
Would a steam help you? I know its a bit old fashioned but before medication was easily obtained people used to (and I remember my mum doing this for my dad) put boiling water into a bowl lean over it and cover themselves with a towel (not a pretty look! :-)). I think I remember my mother using a brown liquid in the water which could have been tincture of benzoine compound (tinc.benz). This would be safe for baby as it is only steam. If you are blocked up and cannot breathe I know Olbas Oil is good for that - a few drops on a hanky and it is good.
found this link on an NHS website

or perhaps a word with the midwife may be useful
Hopefully some other Mum's will come along soon and be of more help.
best wishes
A friend of mine dabs a little peppermint oil on a tissue & breathes it open sinuses. Might be sure safe for little one. Also they say if you can find fresh eucalyptus, tie around shower head & steam from shower will release the eucalyptus. Best of luck to you.
many I know have take a Z-pak for such conditions... taking anything like this long term would be the problem. Being miserable is not good for you or the baby. Ask your doctor to prescribe something to make you feel better.
