Hi All,
I started Urso about five/six weeks ago and have been feeling okay until the last few days. I feel very achy and with a headache. Has anyone experienced this? Maybe its just a virus I am fighting too.
Thanks!
Hi All,

Like muscle and joint aches? Arthritis like? Or fluish?
More muscle aches, like fluids. I haven't had any other issues so far.
My GP told me muscle aches were a side effect of URSO. I'm having super joint stiffness and swelling of the joints. Awful. Painful. But.... I was having this 2 weeks before I started URSO. What does that mean??? RA crossover?? Does it ever end? I'm starting to get discouraged. 😭😭😭😭
Hello Ktltel.
First I've read (on here) about a side effectg of the urso being muscle aches. It could be part of the PBC.
I started taking urso December 2010 at diagnosis. I encountered a few initial side-effects which were heartburn, a bit of tummy bloating and I did think for awhile the itching became worse. The urso can actually cause pruritis and I expect for someone who starts off itching pre-diagnosis like I did then one sort of counteracts the other hence still itch.
I do think sometimes we can ingrain in ourselves (I know I did) that taking something new can give us allsorts of side-effects. I've never been partial to reaching for headache tablets in the past and never been on tablets for more than a week prior to being informed I had PBC 2010. I've only taken the urso since 2010 and though I hate having to be informed that urso is generally for life though not happy in my case it did turn around the itch as it isn't like it was in 2010.
Anyone on any other medications at the time they start the urso might just encounter certain side-effects contributed to a clash of medications.
I do get headaches from time to time with the Urso. I suffer from migraines since I was a kid so this side effect is awful for me. However I don't have much of a choice. Sometimes if I'm already suffering from an extreme headache (like yesterday) I skip taking my Urso because it's THAT bad. I do not feel achy, or any other side effects. Maybe you are catching something else, it's going around.
I've been on urso 22 years without side effects. The aches and pains came about five yeArs ago as a result of the Pbc Tylenol works
No Tylenol for liver!!!
I take it almost everyday we call it paracetamol in the uk
I take co codamol which is paracetamol & codeine for long term pain management,my liver specialist said I was fine to continue with current dose 500mg/30mg up to six daily , I usually take between 3 -4 , it just depends , I can't move otherwise so I take it if I need it , it does worry me though I'm sure I developed my pbc because of the long term use of it but who knows?
Hello Harley2016.
I've not had anything like paracetamol, aspirin, etc since I started to itch early 2010 (diagnosed December 2010). (I am of course in the UK.) I never really took painkillers or got prescriptions for the doctor pre-2010 anyway (never really had anything wrong except for the odd minor ailment) and hadn't had any prescribed meds since 1999.
As I have read (somewhere on PBC Foundation literature) it is said to be OK if one has PBC and it is in the earlier stages. It's later stage that medications are addressed for use apparently.
I know personally if I was finding I needed something (ie for a toothache. I did encounter one in 2009 and did resort to a few days of paracetamol) then I would certainly consider taking.
I am in some way a bit of a believer that sometimes something that might be deemed bad might just in another sense in the case of PBC kick the liver into a bit of fighting action. I obviously don't know this for sure but I have found with this PBC it is one of those that we have and it seems to be so strange at times. Some days the itching for me isn't very bad, other days it feels unbearable (I tend to only have it late at night these days, causes broken sleep as still got it until around 6a.m). I noted on days when I've eaten what is considered very healthy (ie salad vegetables, raw fruit, etc) I can find myself itching more than on days when I feel I might not have eaten as well. All very odd.
Hi peridot I was commenting on bonnieannie54 /nolaghs post "no tyrenol for the liver" , I glad you cleared that up for me as i realise some people take it & some people don't and I did wonder why option is divided , it does make me uncomfortable using it regularly but I still have to get through each day, thanks for your info 😁
Hello again Harley2016.
Yes I was aware I was posting on your thread, it was your question contained in it that I decided to add comments under yours.
I've just looked online at the PBC Foundation patient leaflet and copied this paragraph about other meds with PBC. I've typed it word for word as it was on the leaflet:-
"For simple aches and pains it is, however, best to avoid Aspirin and medicines containing Aspirin. If you have minor aches and pains, then Paracetamol, up to four tablets a day, is usually safe. If the pain persists, or you require stronger painkillers, then you should see your doctor. You may wish to take vitamin tablets and provided you follow the instructions on the manufacturer's label, these do not usually cause any problems. Do remember that some herbal remedies may interact with medicines and herbal medicines too may have side-effects."
Thanks for info peridot
