Hi moiraanne

I was recently at a presentation where a specialist was asked this question. He indicated that where other genes were introduced into a family it did not necessarily mean that children would be likely to also have PBC. I say indicated because I cannot remember exactly how he said this but certainly with husbands and wives getting together genes of the next generation would be affected by the mix and dilution.

There is a genetic study being undertaken by

uk-pbc.com/projects/genetics/

and hopefully this will eventually lead to a better understanding of this auto immune disease.

I personally feel it is a good idea to bear the thought in mind and get tested when an appropriate age is reached however it would be awful to live under a shadow of maybe.

best wishes

Hi Chocolate - i bet youre sweet lol. Welcome to the very exclusive group

Hello this is the 2nd time in a few days this has been mentioned, PBC and othe family members. I recently received the latest issue of Bear Facts online and this is what a Medical Advisor stated in response to one of the common questions apparently. As far as I know I'm the first in my family to acquire PBC. I have a daughter (soon 31) but we've never discussed if she could acquire it. The question from the Bear Facts, I post here as it is written:-

"Q. Can the family of PBC sufferers be tested to see if

they are possible carriers?

A. It is possible to test family members for PBC by

measuring liver tests or seeing if AMA are present

but we strongly advise against it, if they are well and

asymptomatic."

I have to say I do agree with the answer here.

Hi moiraanne

As far as I'm aware I'm the only person in my family to have PBC

As I don't have any children it wouldn't be passed on

Mike 😊
