Hello Melwoods.

I recently woke up during the night wet through due to sweating (and I live in a non-centrally-heated home in the UK that isn't the warmest part, the North West) and then I suddenly grew cold. I know in my case it is due to having just gone through the menopause that I started with an erratic cycle 4 years ago. I'd been lucky as I'd not really had any symptons except for longer periods of time between my cycles. Then all of a sudden I started with the hot flushes several months ago. Have a couple of them at least a week but nothing too bad. Then I started with the sweating recently. So if you are around this age it could be this that is causing it. I am 53 next month.

I remember 20 years ago now a neighbour of mine said she was going through the change and she was opening and closing her house doors, gas fire going on/off and she mentioned about waking up wet through during the night, all due to menopause. (I lost my mother when I was 22 so had no-one to discuss things like this with. My yr younger sister had a brain haemorrhage 3 years ago so we don't talk about things the same these days even though she regained speech, walking, writing, etc., it's affected her memory somewhat.)

Hi Melwoods, I used to go thru periods where I would have same/similar experience. Easiest thing is to check with your doctor to make sure it not liver related, might want to check with your gynecologist, can do hormone levels (peri-menopause ?). Maybe you fighting off low grade infection? Lots of 'minor' reasons you experiencing these symptoms. I never feel like a hypochondriac when I call the doctor(s) for any new symptom, pain, whatever--- I think that due to PBC diagnosis, age related issues that are normal or perhaps early warning signs of a 'new' auto immune condition manifesting itself (thyroid? sicca?), etc, I think it is prudent to check them out. I always feel better after taking action. Hope you feel better.

I am having major life impacting problems with head sweating?? It might come after eating, or even a little walk to the supermarket. The sweat actually drips off my hair, my face is noticeably sweating, but it's just my head??

I suffer terribly, I've been through the menopause, so i thought it was that but these are a different pattern, then they said it was my vit d but they've started again it just seems to be part of normality now, any exertion at all seems to bring it on even putting make up on which makes it ny on impossible as you end up dabbing it off. Pretty fed up with it really. X

I'm in my 4 th year, my bloods are in control & I'm ok with urso, but I'm ticking autoimmune things off a list or so it seems, i do have another medical issue under diagnosis not PBC related, but they've just said it could be interfering with my liver bloods i.e. they may not be really as good as they are so I'm playing a bit of a waiting game at present as the new thing takes gene testing which is 6 months of culture in labs so everything is on hold at present. But the sweats are horrible. X

I have mainly daily but i do have at least one episode at night where the duvet has to come off & the feet need to touch the floor & it helps during the day if i take off the footwear & have bare feet. X

Hi Melwoods

I get night sweats sometimes and I think I can safely say it's not the menopause lol, well not unless there a male equivalent !!

I have to pull duvet off then after a short while I'm freezing. Also when I get warm I get the itches as well. Only lasts for an hour or so but ruins my sleep

All the best

Mike😊
