Insurance: Want to find sensibly priced for... - PBC Foundation
Insurance
We found that Saga was the cheapest and covered my liver problems but mine not so advanced.
I believe the Bear Facts magazine had a couple of articles about insurance. If you go to the members section of the PBC Foundation it may be possible to do a search for this information. There maybe something in the July 2014 edition. I have a reference to it in my files but not the article. Hope this points you in a direction.
best wishes
Just managed to find it, it is in the letters section on page 20.
Hi, I too have PBC and have used Columbus Direct since diagnosis and find them very very reasonable. Good luck.
I found mine through an insurance broker. They did all the leg work. Fee was only £15. it saved me money, time and energy. X
Hi Jtxx,
That's interesting. I've heard of JD Consultants, who seem to be Brokers specifically for Travel Insurance for those with medical conditions, but I've never tried them.
How did you find the brokers, and how much detail do you have to give them? I live in a village miles from anywhere, and I don't think I'd trust my nearest little brokers - assuming they do TI, yet I hate doing it all online, or on the phone.
I've got quite phobic about TI since my PBC diagnosis, as several old companies turned me down flat at the mere mention of PBC - although I think things may have eased now. However, I hate it that so many companies are still not precise, or up-front, about their exact definitions of 'pre-existing medical conditions'. Yet this was exactly one of the points that they were all warned about when the Ombudsman told them off a few years ago: the Ombuds service gets more complaints about TI companies than anything else.
Maybe I just worry too much, as people with far more issues than me do get cover, no problem. It's also not easy to find out which firms will let you ignore some conditions: most of mine, like a tiny, shrinking fibroid, or a long, past history of endometriosis, are not going to cause problems, but the last TI Co. I used would not let me leave out conditions.
Any advice gratefully received.
NB 'World First' were good, but (2 years ago, small print) I noticed afterwards that you were not covered if plane has to land or divert 'cos of your condition - may have changed.
I found it difficult to get a reasonable quote. As soon as you mention PBC they run scared! For me it's probably the one I'll die with, not of. I disclosed all my conditions as they say if you have to claim as a result of the claim being directly or indirectly resulting from your medical conditions. Better safe than sorry. It was my travel agents who recommended the broker. They were very efficient and helpful. Worth a phone call. I have previously used Tesco because the questions they asked I didn't have to answer yes to but not now. Good luck.
Believe it or not, I struggled so much for a trip to Jamaica I was going to cancel. Tesco's standard policy covered me for everything as long as it was monitored by my G.P.
Try it , I would like to know how you get on if that's ok.
Philip.
Yes I would believe it Phillip
