Can anybody give me help with finding travel insurance for going to America. Every company I’ve phoned so far are quoting over £1000. I only have Pbc and a b12 deficiency. Help 😱
This is my first post but thought everybody sounded helpful, was previously with Columbus and Tesco but neither of them can cover me now.

Thanks, will give them a phone and check their rates. I was horrified when I got my first quotes. Think this might be my last trip to America at these rates which is a real shame as I love going to America and really don’t have any issues with my pbc other than tiredness.
Thanks for your help and I hope you are in good health as well 😊
I am in Australia and I am having the same problem for USA, I had all pre-existing covered while on holiday in the UK and thought I would get it again. Going to England for 2 weeks then USA for 18 days. Tried dozens but no luck, I do have a few pre existing medical conditions as I am 75 but none life threatening. I have insurance for anything else.
I have just bought travel insurance with Boots, they would only give me single trip not multi trip but fortunately have insured my trip to USA later in the year for under £300 and a trip to Paris for under £30.
I wouldn’t mind but the PBC and other illnesses I had to declare are early diagnosis and not medicated at the moment.
Great advice, boots were great as they quoted me £55 for a couples policy to Tenerife in June and £262 for a couples trip to USA in November. I just need to wait till early April to book them as I was in hospital for a test 6 weeks ago which won’t be covered till after 10 weeks. Will definitely go for them though as they are miles cheaper than anybody else. Thanks
I have used world first travel for a number of years to go to USA, just used them again this year. I am the same as you, mainly symptom free and pay no extra premium for having PBC. I can’t fault them.
I have had the same problems. Was quoted £850 for European cover. It's a complete joke. No idea what they are basing it on as I answered no to having jaundice, transplant etc. Interestingly i did another quote on line with all my conditions, scleroderma, thyroid, Reunauds and left out PBC and could get it for £40 for the year so its defo the PBC. 😪 some of them still havnt got the right name for it on their system!!!!
Hiya I’ve been quoted £450 for my 5 DAY trip to Spain next month!!! I’m 42 & don’t have loads of issues. I declared a recent gallbladder removal op & the pbc, that’s it. I’m gong to Turkey in August I’m dreading that quote! I’m struggling to find an annual policy as well. I’ll keep looking. You’re right it’s a joke!
I couldn’t get annual so am having to do them individually. Boots quoted me £55 for couples insurance for 2 weeks in Tenerife so they could be worth trying for yourself. I’m 56 with pbc and b12 deficiency and my husband has no issues at all.
Hope this helps as know how frustrating it can be.
As a disclaimer, I'm in Australia so I can only speak of Australian Insurance companies.
I've pretty much had the same experience as most of you - trouble getting travel insurance. What I have noticed when 'shopping around' is that most companies will not cover you for liver or cardiac conditions irregardless of what form it takes (both of which I have) unless you pay an exorbitant amount. When travelling to the US I usually opt out of coverage for both the PBC and cardiac conditions (I do mention that I have them, but do not wish for coverage) - now that I am Stage 4 I can no longer take the risk to go back there to see my family (I am a US citizen).
