SI Aluminium toxicity?

a-wonderful-seed profile image

Have had someone suggest to me--not a medical professional, but someone well-read in STEM--that injections administered at a high frequency (say EOD, as I do) of any kind of cobalamin risks a build-up in the body of toxic levels of aluminium, that could in turn lead to permanent renal problems.

Is there anything to this? What does the literature say? Unfortunately I'm not terribly fluent in PubMed nor scientifically-informed, so I can't say for sure and could use some help.

For context, I've been EOD on and off since mid 2021, so I've been doing it long enough for it to be a risk if there's a real risk. I've been wondering about tapering off to once a week or even less, because I feel a plateau has been hit and my EOD is no longer as efficient.

And I'm also trying to address what seems like persistent methylation issues such as fatigue, allergy flares, low motivation concentration & mood, poor GI, disturbed sleep hair loss etc. with nootropics like creatine, but last summer when I briefly tried this, I ended up back with crippling pain in my feet and also a spine that feels 'frozen' and immobile. Any thoughts on addressing this are most welcomed.

Diolch pawb (that's 'thanks everyone' in my language), it's been a long while since I've posted and checked in, so I hope you're all doing well in this New Year xx

Is there aluminum in the ingredients? If not, what is creating it? I don't see it in the ingredient list for my B12.

Am told it’s somewhere in the serum in trace amounts due to manufacturing, though there’s a debate as to whether it’s definitely there in every brand or in toxic degrees.

Just googled - Do B12 injections contain aluminium ‘ - and answer seems to be YES - not sure if all or by brand - but aluminium is not good for the brain I do know that !

Drinking silicon rich mineral water such as Volvic or Fiji will help to remove that aluminium which we really cannot avoid (although I also try hard to avoid it!). Cheers

Have a look at Chris Exley's work over many years hippocraticpost.com/author/... and hippocraticpost.com/nursing...

I am not convinced that Chris Exley is reputable. theguardian.com/society/201...

I respectfully disagree, although you are of course entitled to your own opinion. We all have to do our own research. Best wishes

I have followed Prof Exley for many years. I was living in Cornwall all those years ago when the Camelford disaster happened and he was called in. A huge amount of aluminium was incorrectly delivered into the water supply.

RFK sent $25K of his own money to Prof Exley to continue his research into aluminium. Keele returned it saying their 'sponsors' wouldn't like it ?? I wonder who !!

He now produces interesting Blogs which only endorse his credibility - hope you have found them 🌻

I have indeed, and thanks so much for that. Not impressed with Keele at all. Best wishes to you x

I googled and came across lots of previous threads on this subject which explain why there is no cause for concern healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po...

I wrote a short blog which attempts to explain the issues and why a statement about aluminium appears.

helvella - Aluminium in Cyanocobalamin Injections

An explanation of why the mentioning of aluminium in cyanocobalamin injections products does not imply that the product contains aluminium.

I was interested in your comment that when you try to cut back you get real pain in your feet. I have a lot of foot pain- do you feel this is related to your level of injections ?

Hey, I’m really sorry you’re hurting, hopefully you find a pain management that works really soon.

In my experience the two do seem to correlate, yes. One of the big symptoms of pain that brought me to the table for SI in the first place was a feeling of numbness alternating with pricking stabbing pain in my feet. If I supplement B12 SI then it seems to clear up—not sure why, as my doctors have never been that helpful in terms of diagnosis.

Could work for you or it may not. I wish you luck and success in finding relief and an answer🫡

Ahhh, I didn’t mean to panic anyone! So sorry if that was the effect, it’s my bad and I’ll express my concerns & questions more carefully next time.

hedyn hyfryd,

Foot pain, especially what might be called Plantar fasciitis, is well-known in hypothyroidism. It was one of the first symptoms that prompted me to get a TSH test many years ago.

Just mentioning in case you have not considered that possibility.

(The attempted treatment by two entirely different specialists hurt more than I can tell you. Just exercises and insoles - but both entirely wrong-headed for me.)

Creatine is one of the most extensively tested and safe supplements you can buy, especially at reasonable doses such as 5g per day. I've never heard of it causing the symptoms you mention. I wouldn't intrepret what you described as methylation issues, those symptoms could have many causes.
