should I take PPIs

I hope some of you may be able to give me some advice. I had endoscopy about 3 weeks ago after my GP referred me to Gastroenterologist. It came back with diagnosis of Gastritis which I already knew about. I’m clear of Hpylori but doctor took 4 biopsies which I am waiting on results.

Due to inflammation from Gastritis he wants me to take PPIs for 8 weeks then step down.

I have been S/I every other day for approx 4 months now. My question is will this affect my injections or is it ok as it is only a shortish course.

I’m nervous as I just don’t want to go backwards after a dreadful few months.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks for your time.

I think PPIs most of all make it more difficult to absorb B12 from food, because the stomach acid helps with extracting B12 from the proteins it is naturally bound to. I'm no expert though so I hope someone who knows more will share their knowledge. I'm not even sure if PPIs have much of an effect on supplements, because supplemental B12 typically isn't tied to proteins.

PPIs won't affect your injections.

Course of8 weeks should be okay anyway.

The PPI won’t affect your injections . As long as you are only on the PPPI for no longer than 8 weeks , you should be OK . But I would not want to be on a PPI for longer .

Thank you so much for your reply. I agree I would not take PPI under normal circumstances, unfortunately I took them for a few years going back sometime. I was just frightened that this time they would affect my B12 jabs. The Gastroenterologist told me I would be ok for short time as I’m on B12 therapy. I have felt so awful over last few months but now SI EOD for 4+ months now and didn’t want to upset things.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

My daughter had to take them to be able to eat . She was having B12 injections

With time her severe reflux ( tube feeding had been proposed )

A good daily prebiotic abd squeezed fresh lemon 🍋 in hog water and of course B12 replaced the need .

If needs must go ahead short term as you are getting your b12 anyhow .
