Methyl ampoules shipment in hot weather

Hi, I ordered Methylcobalamin from Arnika in Germany and they said that it will be shipped next week. According to the weather report it will be around +30 Celsius/86 F in Munich next week, very hot. Usually it takes 3-4 days for a package to arrive in Holland. Could it damage the ampoules while in transport?

It isn’t stored in fridges so should be fine.

Hi Olga67

It should e OK and I do believe they would Not ship if they thought otherwise.

Although Methylcobalamin is less stable than either Cyanocobalamin or Hydroxocabalamin due to temperature and exposure to light it can take that journey. It most likely will come packed in a Styrofoam cool pack with a frozen gelpack inside. Once you receive it, yes, pop it into the frig and keep out of light.

I have my Methylcobalamin shipped 3,000 miles from Eastern US to California in temperatures well in excess of 100F at times and have had no issues. I've recently read study that stated methyl was good for 181 days at room temperature if kept out of light.

Best wishes, Rexz

I'm in the eastern US. I used to get methylcobalamin from Arnika, but they're not shipping to US now. Can you tell me where you get your methylcobalamin from in the eastern US? I preferred methylcobalamin over the other formulations I've used and would like to get methylcobalamin again if possible.

Yes, from Hopewell Pharmacy in Hopewell New Jersey.

I get mine in prefilled SC syringes. So these do require a prescription.

Yep, I've found Methyl much better than cyano.

Good luck. Rexz

Thank you. That's great you have a doctor to do that for you.

I am worried about summer temperatures for B12 ampules. I have just received some some now ( in the NZ winter NZ ) and have sufficient to go through the NZ summer into autumn. Over the summer, temperatures can go up to 35 degreesC . But there is also advice not to store it in the fridge, I think because of the dampness and moisture that that might engenders. But once the temperatures go over 30 degrees C, I feel like they should be refrigerated. Difficult decision! What do others do? The other problem with refrigeration is that the cold B12 can hurt, but a vial can always be left out of the fridge overnight, long enough to reach room temperature. Would dampness/moisture really get inside a vial?

I phoned Arnika pharmacy in Germany and they said "Please, do not store our ampoules in the fridge, put them in the cellar in hot weather". I don't have a cellar so I'll have to think of something. The instruction on the package said to store between 15-25 C and not to use if there are flakes floating in the solution . My thought is that the solution starts to crystallise if kept at low temp. I don't know if you have the same supplier as I do, the reason for keeping the ampoules at room temp could be the same.
