Methyl or Hydro B12 injections - is it safe to switch between both each month?

Is it safe to switch between different types of B12 injections? For example, one month I take the hydroxocobalamin injection and the next month i take the methylcobalamin injection?

I feel better with methylcobalamin , but I’m only prescribed the hydroxocobalamin but I’m thinking to take methylcobalamin injections privately one month after my hydroxocobalamin injection.

Please let me know as I’m unsure of the effects of this or what the differences are between them.

Which type of b12 injection, methyl or hydro, works best for you?

It was perfectly safe for me . I found no difference at all between the two . so I stopped methylcobalamin because it was so very expensive . It’s very much a personal thing

I found that hydroxy is strongest but also leads to a more pronounced B12 deficiency symptoms just before the next injection. Methyl is in-between and I did not feel very drastic "down" before the next injection. Cyano is least strong and neither has a very strong effect just after the injection nor a very strong downturn just before the next injection. Due to these, I prefer cyano, but methyl also worked fine for me. Hydroxy did not suit me at all due to the above effect. All of them provide B12 to the body but the body reacts differently to them as it has different mechanisms to convert these different forms to usable B12, and some are faster than others. Hence, you should take whatever form suits you best.

hello, its really an individual thing, some do not rate it, others do. I have found methylcobalamin beneficial so inject both daily. No adverse side effects when introduced. However a few have reported that they have sleep problems with it, but not me. Best wishes, x

Hi LaraPA! Your query and the replies came up in the search I've just done as I am in exactly the same position :-) I need top ups between my 12 weekly B12 jabs at my GP surgery (these are Hydro) which my GP refuses (I have yet to summon the energy to have another conversation with him in light of updated NICE guidelines). I have found somewhere I can get Methylcobalamin privately and was wondering whether it is ok to do this or not.

Thank you for asking this question - and thank you to everyone who replied. I shall go ahead and book and see how it goes!
