Blood Work

Hello Friends, I asked this question on my original thread but someone suggested I start a new one.

I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Atrophic Gastritis 2 weeks ago and have been having a hard time mentally .

My family Dr this past Friday sends me the blood tests results and says they cannot comment on them and they are referring to GI, one GI already declined referral

My blood came back and Gastrin is at 854. Says normal is under 100

parietal cell antibody 1:80, says normal 1:20 and negative for intrinsic factor antibodies

Iron was 64 and B12 954 ( I inject monthly )

Any comments are appreciated, where am I with this condition at this point, I am 42 years old

Thanks a lot, people on this forum are amazing

Your iron may be low. Ferritin is an indicator of iron status so if you have low ferritin that could cause B12D-like symptoms. Ferritin numbers are very individual and one size does not fit all.

In the U.K. , the “ National Institute for Health and Care Excellence “ other wise known as NICE .has just issued new guide lines for the diagnosis and management of Vitamin B12 deficiency. In that document they declare that they are going to call Pernicious Anaemia by another title , namely “ Autoimmune Atrophic Gastritis “. That is a more accurate name .

This means that you have Pernicious Anaemia. You need to be treated ASAP With B12 injections FOR LIFE .

Youcan have a good b12 reading , but still have P.A. . That’s called functional B12 deficiency . 50;% of P.A. patients get a negative Intrinsic Factor Antibodies test . Your doctor should know this .

Hello, Thank you. So everyone with Autoimmune Atrophic Gastritis has Pernicious Anaemia?

I am not sure which one sounds better or worse

My Iron level never went below the norm, but I have been getting B12 shots since 2010

Sadly my Dr does not know anything, they sent results at 4pm on a Friday and said they cannot comment on these.

Hi,

"My blood came back and Gastrin is at 854. Says normal is under 100"

What has your doctor said about the high gastrin level?

There are various causes of raised gastrin, it can be associated with PA.

I hope you find a GI specialist soon.

Testing.com have an article about gastrin. Some of the details may be upsetting to read.

Dr Does not know, But I talked to Pat Kornic, she runs a FB group in canada, also Rex on here explained to me that high Gastrin is normal in Autoimmune Atrophic Gastritis
