Hi everyone. I'm about to switch from methyl b12 ampules to Dr myhill's hydroxo, and I'm worried about side effects. I've only been SI for under a year and I've never had a break, so I don't know how I'll react. I've never injected hydroxo. I've been SI 0.5ml of the methyl EOD, which equates to 375mcg of B12, and if I inject 0.5ml of the hydroxo it'll be 500mcg. I guess I just have to go for it and hope for the best. Just posting in case anyone has any words of wisdom or support. Thank you x

Changing from methyl to hydroxo worries
You have my support for injecting Hydrocobalamin. I found no advantage in Methylcobalamin. But we are all different , don’t forget . The only proviso that I have is that The Myhill Hydroxocobalamin is in a 30 ml vial . Not in single use ampoules . There is a slight danger of contamination with using a vial 30 or more times.
I advise using single use Hydroxocobalamin ampoules from German online pharmacies , like eg apohealth.de Available in English (Union flag bottom left on my device . )
This pharmacy delivers free if you spend €12.00 or more .
A popular brand is Panpharma B12 depot ( depot means it’s Hydroxocobalamin , not Cynocobalamin ) Use ref. 16199653 (10 in a pack .)1mg x 1ml ampoule
Pascoe b12 depot is another brand ——-1.5mg x 1ml
Hevert b12 depot 1.mg x 2ml ampoule
There are a few German pharmacies that will supply the U.K. , with German ampoules , but I must rush off now . Best wishes .
Thank you for your support and tips. I want to move to ordering ampules from Germany myself but have been so overwhelmed with what and how on earth to order, especially as I was on methyl which appears less commonly available. So your info is very helpful indeed as it gives me precise info re where to start 🙏 If all goes well with the transition to hydroxo hopefully I'll then order from Germany.
I too felt a bit overwhelmed about how to order from Germany (don't know why as I order things from abroad regularly) but I did. Using Wedgewood's advice I placed my order on Saturday night. It really was simple. Then I ordered the needles and syringes from UK outlets, also provided by Wedgewood. Job done. This will be my first time SI and I'm going for sub cut because I know I can do that.
If you want any links from me, just ask. I have them all bookmarked.
Hi Wedgewood, I'm placing my order off the back of your help, thank you 🙏
However I'm getting charged for delivery on Apohealth - has this changed or am I missing a discount code or something else? Order is circa €60. Thanks so much
The last time that I ordered from apohealth , shipping was free of charge , and was advertised as such . I did not need to put in a code or anything like that . They must have changed their policy. I will not be recommending them in future . Thanks for telling me . I feel bad about having recommending them now. . How much shipping did they charge ?
No worries, please don't feel bad. I still really appreciate your advice to get me started. It's circa €10 so not the end of the world for a 1st order. I haven't ordered yet so might have a little look around to compare prices
The B12 will be cheaper at versandapo.de , and the courier costs about €9.
Hello, at first I used the Dr Myhill hydroxo. vials and with no problems or reaction. Luckily I found out these multi vials have an advisory 30 day use by date. So if you follow this by using .50ml only you would waste half. I used 1m, then changed to the Pascoe ampoules. Best wishes.
In my experience, methyl and hydroxy are equivalent, with hydroxy retention being slightly higher than methyl, so you can inject 0.375ml rather than 0.5ml if you want to do do 375mcg instead of 500mcg. It will be less painful. Regarding multi-dose vials, I have not found any problems with using these. WHO guidelines say they can be used for 42 days. I use them for about 1.5 months with no issues.
Thanks, that's good to know. Good point, I'll start with 0.375ml. My thinking hadn't got that far yet, so thank you. Great to know about the 42 days too. Dr myhill's office told me there's no time limit, but I'd rather be a little more cautious
Interesting that they told you that they don't have any limit. That is what I think probably is true, although WHO will, of course, try to give some guideline on the time and that 42 days I got is for multi-dose vials in general, and things may be better with B12 vials. After all, wine is kept for centuries without getting spoilt and it is alcohol that is used to preserve these meds!!!
Hello am111 - do you have a link to the WHO guidelines you mentioned? I was trained and CDC guidelines in USA all still stick to the 28 day rule. When I looked on the WHO site, it still said 28 days, but was specific to vaccine multi-dose vials. TIA
Can't find the link. Remember reading somewhere. Some people say 28 days and others 42 days. Currently, it seems to be 28 days.
I just read a paper that says insulin vials are sterile for upto 6 months.
Frankly, I don't think these things spoil for a long time. 28 days is just a safe limit.
